The guy I bought my Porsche from (private sale) let me drive the car alone and I'm 19. A private sale is even more risky.
It's all in how trustful you look/come off as.
I think it's all what you roll up to the sale in and how you're dressed. I'm 23 and was given the keys to a 50k CTS to test drive no questions asked, likely because I had suit on (came from work) and rolled up in a freshly washed and waxed car. If I'd come in on the weekend in jeans and my beat to ass pickup I never would have come with 50 feet of those keys I'm sure.
I actually was allowed to test drive three, a AWD Direct Injected one with non-sport suspension, an AWD DI with the sport package a RWD DI with the sport suspension. They even had to pull the AWD DI Sport one out of the showroom because it was the only one on the lot with that setup. I was shocked that they did all that without at least some kind of basic check to make sure I could afford the car.
Also I think it depends on the salesman's approach. Some like to ride along with you to point out "Oh this is a nice feature" and "Oh look at this button over here" and shit like that, so even if they trust you 100% they're still coming along to talk the car up.
but that stang did good considering it was a high speed crash, though it was dumb on the dealers part for letting teens drive it alone.

some times it depends on how well you know the dealership too. when my parents first looked at the goat, they where given a 4 day demo, no questions asked. the sales dude showed up to my moms work, dropped the car off, signed some paper work and took her jeep back. one 100 mph test drive, and one week later it was mine. the dealership should have insurance, the salesman is fired. but who in there right mind lets teens test drive a GT? unless, they where pre approved.
fixed. i dont car how long you have been driving ALL teen drives are irresponsible
Thanks.
Yeah, really.

^^^I completely agree!! You can tell us "Oh I used to drive my dad's truck all the time" or what-not. You don't TRULY get the experience until much later. 16,17,18 even, you're still an amateur. Can't begin to tell you how many times I've been cut off by high school kids in the morning.

So you've personally met EVERY teenager in the world and had a first hand driving experience with EVERY one of them, and EACH one of them cut someone off/caused an accident or wrecked a shitty car (Thread post).
That's interesting, because I don't think I've ever met you. Don't judge because one or twice you've been cut off by what appears to be a teenager.

Thanks for putting down my whole generation and saying we suck at driving, I appreciate it.

Well coming from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, teenagers 16-19 are 2.7 times more likely to be involved in a injury/fatal crash in this country. Of course there are always exceptions to the rules. But you can't honestly tell me that the statistics aren't relevant. Hell, 16 year olds are 3.7 times more likely that any other age group.
And I've never met you. But when I was in high school, there were accidents the very first day for 3 of the 4 years there. You can say what you want about my opinion, but the facts are that teenagers are a higher risk on the road.
And no one is signaling out YOUR generation. I think we've all been 16-19 before. We've all seen it happen. My dad has told me stories, my brother has told me stories, and I have seen it. Driving is an acquired skill. No saying you or all teens suck at driving, just statistically, a higher risk. I was part of that statistic too.

What the hell did they hit? That is just insane that the dealership would give 3 teens the keys to a brand new car and not go along on the test drive.
x2 where can i find this dealership and do they happen to have a new camaro to test drive all the stealerships around here are just getting a few in and you can barely touch them let alone drive them, but i havent ever been to a dealership yet that doesnt go with you on the test drive
Thanks for putting down my whole generation and saying we suck at driving, I appreciate it.
your welcome. there are always exceptions to the rules. but MOST teenagers lack SEAT time. i have been driving since i was 7, had a license since i was 14. and i still did my fair share of stupid shit, WE ALL HAVE.
im starting to think the kid hit some sort of concrete barrier, guard rail or clipped a pole
This is like the guy on here that was sellin ghis nice LS1 WS6 and let a guy test drive it on his own who then trashed it... they guy said sorry and left and his insurance did not cover other drivers...
Im shocked that the dealer did not want to go... maybe they never saw the video of the guy that test drove an 03-04 Cobra with someone from the dealer in the car.... while he was smoking the tires and all......
I would not say the younger crowd does not suck at driving but give them 10+ years and they will look bac and realize that really they were not all that great of a driver... that happens to everyone..... I thought I was great......... then later realized I was not.
I live a few miles from my old High School, I avoid that area like the plauge... I am also glad that I leave for work right before they leave school...

My Car - I dunno George.....
We've only had 2 accidents while I was in High School, one of them was between 2 parents.
I have more experience driving than most teenagers, but where I live, theirs more crappy adult drivers than teen drivers.

Well again, there are exceptions to every rule and statistic. But to get back on track, I think the dealer should have had someone go with them at least (if it was a dealer). Bad move on their part. Thank God they didn't hurt anyone or themselves. I mean come on, no seat belts and you're going to be traveling at those speeds?! Kudos to Ford on safety, though haha.
