Default help with picking a car

Hey everyone I am looking for suggestions.I want to keep road racing instead of drag racing.I have a lot more fun in the turns. The problem is I can not decide which car.I have an 80 z28 and a 00 z28.both require a little work to make them track worthy.which one would give me more bang for the buck?thanks for your thoughts and suggestions ahead of time.

The 00 doesn't really need too much to get it started, just tires and good brake pads. You can then mod as you like, or can afford.

the 80 will require a fair amount of work to get it anywhere near the 00 just as it sits...

I'm assuming both are near stock.

00 Hands Down especially if you want bang for the buck.
I have tracked a 68 Camaro with Hotchkis suspension, C5 Brakes, 6.0 Ls1 putting down 370 hp. I race an 02 Camaro in the camaromustangchallenge that I started tracking bone stock and it was night and day difference. I was so much quicker in the new car it wasn't even funny. Now after some springs and a restrictor in the intake I have 100 less rwhp and still much faster in the 02.

On the other side the new ones look terrible compared to the old cars but road racing isn't a car show like a drag race.

Another for the 2000. My dad has a '79 Z28 4 speed, still has original clutch, nice shape right down to the Konis. Definitely would take more work to be reliable. Get some brake ducts on the fronts, race pads all around, a Turn One PS pump (cheap), synthetics all around and straight water/Water Wetter for cooling system.

id rather go old school. just for the point that no one else will have something like it, and when you spank some yuppie in a new beamer or jap import, youll feel all the better for it. i was going to turn my 78 TA into an autox/track car, but decided not to since its in such good shape. if i was going to build a dedicated race/track car, id go for a late 2nd gen. Trans Am. despite what people say, even stock they DO handle well, and only get better the more work you put into them. and it doesnt get any easier to work on then an old school carbed V8. no computers, no wires, no nothing. just screws, bolts, and horsepower.

Dont get me wrong i love my old school chevys alot.I would love to get it out there and try it.I just not sure how it would do with the 4 speed.I got to get use to the clutch if i use it that mechanical linkage is a different animal. And i cannt seem to find out the info to help get the parts to set it up.either way i go i got work to do.I just started to price parts for both to help see which way to go.so far it looks like it is gonna cost about the same.thanks for your input.rocky
