Default Input on engine build please.

I cracked a ring in #8 at VIR Thursday so I am doing a new motor. Specs are here:

Thoughts on engine build?

For a $1000 more I can have a forged 408, so it seems like a good upgrade. Any thoughts and input would be appreciated. Thanks.

"408 Iron", is that saying it is an iron block?

How much power are you looking to make and how much do you want to spend? Those are really the factors that would be most helpful in deciding on a build.

It is an iron block. I don't really have a budget, I just want a solid, bullet proof motor to dd and track. I was hoping to land around 500 rwhp, but that is not a requirement.

I would go with an aluminum 402 instead. The power is going to about the same and looking at your signature you are going to happier with 200 less # on the nose of the car. Also aluminum will dissipate heat better so heat management may be a bit easier especially on those 20+ minute stints of constant high rpm flogging. My .02

The weight of the iron block will upset the balance of the car pretty bad. You are looking to add 80ish lbs to the front of the car by losing the aluminum block.

If I were in your position, I would just grab a used LS2 and through a mild head and cam package on it along with bolt ons.

The iron block is not really much of any addition to durability at 500hp. It would mean more if you were aiming for 1000hp, but at 500, you will have no problems with an aluminum block.

If budget is not an issue.. why not just get a LS7 Crate motor.. That should be bullet proof enough.

OK, changed to 402 Aluminum block and to TSP hardend pushrods. Anything else before I order today?
