Default Cut-down Moser - good for the track?!

have come across a good deal on a 9" moser housing that is cut 1.5" a side (3" total). this would allow for a very clean 315 install.

My question is if there are any drawbacks to this route for a road course setup? Obviously the wider the stance the better, but I would downsize the tire size and change backspacing if i stay with full width setup as I'm not a huge fan of the 315 look I currently have (tire out past wheellip).

Thoughts????

Tires are part of tuning and often times a too wide rear tire causes understeer.

Is 275/315 not a good combo?

What about 275s all around? That was my thought as it sees a lot of street duty, might be nice to rotate tires (would skip the short rear of course).

I like the idea of equal sizes all the way around for the rotation aspect you mentioned. Not sure what other real world experiences are here. But you will find that sticky 275's are more plentiful and cheaper than the larger tire.

I would buy it if it is a good deal and set up for our cars to bolt in. I have been looking for the same thing. As I have 3"bs wheels. extra aluminum drivshaft. ect....

Pm me if you pass it up and want to sell thanks

275/315 are a proven setup. 315s ALL around is a necessity when competing at the top level. you shouldnt need a shortend rear if youre running the right offset and suspension. if its cheap, try it and see how it works. the 9in isnt the best for road racing. too heavy, not many road race diffs offered. the ideal would be a built 10 bolt with a T2R or equivilent.

The only difference I can see it making is a slight reduction in mass because the axles and axle tubes are shorter. Other than saving a few lbs and buying different wheel offsets, it should have no real effect on the way the cars acts.

Running the 275/315 tire size split is fine as long as you get the car up for it. It is super fun if you like rotating the car on throttle at autocrosses. heh

Thanks for all the input. I'm picking up the housing this wkend ($300). I was planning to get new wheels anyways plus I think the 315s will look killer tucked in an extra 1.5".

Gotta get stocked for those long winter months ya know!

275/315 is a great combo. 285/315 is better. Dont rotate tires. Once the rubber is set for the corner of a car, leave that tire in that corner.

Tires sticking out beyound the fender is not a good thing. that causes so much wind resistance, that as soon as you tuck those tires under the fenders you will notice a big speed increase.

Good Luck

I like 315's on all 4 corners, and I certainly rotate mine to keep the wear even.
