I got a new set of AFR 225's, so i sold my 205's to my friend Louie who had Patriot heads on his 2004 GTO. He has a cam headers,u know the usual stuff. He tells me he can't see spending the money for the AFR's that is why he had the Patriot's in the first place. And of course for the money the Patriot's performance is good. Well with just the head change and a small bump in compression(1/4 to1/2) we saw 30 H and 30Fpt. The drive to the dyno. u could feel the torque, the crispness the dam thing just ran better! So as I always say cheap people always try to achieve the same results as the people just buying a more developed product. Bottom line is don't think with ur wallet when u want the best!!!!!!

IMO, Sounds like someone who realizes he messed up in is 1st decision and is trying to justify his cost expenditure.

It is a2004 GTO stock b.end ARF 205 Futral 228 230 cam TPIS headers kn air filter stock muffs. No overlay . U can't put a price on the best can u!!!

My personal experience in the link below, thing is I paid $1700 for the patriot heads a year ago when I was stationed in afghanistan. My #'s arent spectacular either, as a matter of fact theyre identical to a friend of mine who has a slightly larger cam, and mildly ported stock LS1 heads with stock valve diameter. Not very impressed at all, especially with the hole that was on one of the intake runners. Heres the link, I provided another link in my response here. At that link if you make it to the end of the thread you can see some pics that my friend Jermzz posted as he helped with me with my cam swap.

Shouldve paid another $500 and gotten AFR's. What a waste.

Not surprising. The AFRs are a much more modern combustion chamber and port. They support added compression. And even if you didn't add compression, it would pull less timing. Which goes to show, there is more to heads than flow @ 28".

A question, what was the difference between the 205s and 225s? What was your displacement?

GM broke some barriers in the efficiencies and flow rates of all of the LS series heads (as it appears that they are doing with the LS7 and L92 head series again). The Patriot heads and others that are CNC ported variants of GM castings represent improved numbers over the as-cast numbers straight from GM, that's a given. However, when Air Flow Research brought out their Mongoose series, they were a derivative of the factory designs and dramatically improved on the factory design in many ways. However, these heads were designed from the ground up as second generation aftermarket performance heads and were not limited by some of the mass production constraints of unit cost that are true with any factory design. Now, many new aftermarket heads (both cathedral and rectangular port designs) are joining the fray. AFR was the pioneer and they will always continue to be a leader in this arena. However, I'm sure that the new Patriot Predators, Edlebrock, Dart, World Products, and other new generation heads will be stellar performers too. It's pretty impressive to think of the vast array of good CNC'd heads (both OEM and Aftermarket) that are routinely available. Be thankful for competition among manufacturers. It improves the breed and lowers the price.
