Well, it could be a number of things: detuned, the heads, cam, intake, you name it. Whats the engine code for that motor??? If you find that out, you can find its specs, too.

My buddy is pretty obsessed with the G8 right now, and links me a bunch of stuff. He doesn't really understand, but I do lol Apparently about 20hp is lost from DoD, and then another 10 or so from tune and the tune having to accomodate the DoD. So changing the tune and the cam, as well as running a good CAI, you're well into the 450hp area it seems. That MAY include exhaust though.

It's tuned to run on 87 octane. Just a retune is worth quite a bit. Plus the cam is extremely wimpy. Exhaust is pretty restrictive also. There is an easy 100hp with just a cam, exhaust, and tune change.

Because the l76 is a low compression, low rpm, truck engine that runs on 87 octane. While the ls2 is a high compression, high rpm, sports car engine that runs on 91+ octane. The two engines actually share very few parts,as they have diffrent heads, cam, intake, exhaust. The l76 seems to be the replacement for the out going lq4 6.0 [300hp375tq] and the l92 replaces the lq9 [345/380].If your wanting too buy a factory high performance G8 you'll have to wait for the ls3 gxp edition in "09".

You have to remember that DOD can easily be removed and without it many cars would get the gas gusler tax.

DOD = bigger higher HP engines

It isn't the same as the truck L76, it's different.

How much though? Gaining 20HP for $0.20 more a gallon worth it?

Yeah, because that $3.50 difference every week or two is just two damn much to spend on a $32k car that you are trying to make fast.

G8 comes out this fall.

It will be available with a 6-speed... auto or manual.
...only autos at first, but a few months down the road the manual will be available.

As for DoD taking away horsepower... that's the first I've heard of that.

The G8 will be a wonderful car once GM gets off their duffs and gets it over here.

Tuning will yield tons more power I believe.

The L76 cam is quite a bit smaller than the LS2 cam.
That in combination with being tuned for 87 octane (versus the LS2 being tuned for 91 octane) makes all the difference right there.

93 octane gas plus a 93 octane tune will net a 20hp gain easily.

HP Tuners FTMFW.

So far the down under folks have been gaining 50hp with a CAI, Tune and exhaust (I'm pretty sure exhaust isn't headers)
