Default 6L80e in 69

Anyone know if this has been done in a 69 Camaro? Gm is selling the tranny for $1871. It would be nice if it fit without cuts and mods.

The 6l80E has it's own computer so you would need it and a harness. Plus a tune maybe so the 2 computers talk to each other.
But the gear ratios are sweet!
I think it's supose to be the about the same size as a 60E but I have yet to see one and actually measure it!

Holy cow, look at the ratio span between 1st and 2nd. Not good!

Yeah but the rest of the ratios are sweet. First gear would be good just to get out of the hole then once 2nd kicks in your off.

6L80E Swap = not likely

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently had the opportunity to attend a GM transmission
sales conference that just so happened to be located at the
only GM authorized remanufacturing facility for the new 6L80E.
I had to ask the plant operator the same question.
He proceded to stop the assembly line, and proceded
to show me the transmission control unit that is located
INSIDE the transmission.
He then explained that that the shift solenoids are not
applied in a simple on/off fashion like the 4L60E and 4L80E.
The trans control module and the PCM inside the car
communicate with each other to establish what type of
shift needs to occur based on real time operating conditions.
The module has full dynamic control of the shift solenoids.
It tells the solenoid to open to a certain percentage of
capacity (0%-100%) for a certain length of time etc.
The biggest challenge that I see is the lack of software
support to "reflash" both the PCM AND the trans control module.
Hopefully the aftermarket will step up and hack the software
and offer a solution to this problem.
I hope this helps.

Have you ever driven a car with ratios like that? It sounds good in theory, but the motor runs out of steam so fast in first gear it actually slows the car down.

Would make it a pain to get traction, too.

Like the granny gears on work trucks. I had a work f250 with a granny gear. I never even used 1st gear.
