Default Mellings HV oil pump

What is the deal with mellings 55hv oil pumps?I here they recommend not to run these with solid motor mounts,or racing applications in general. It seems that melling has redesigned the base of the pump and it is not as strong as they were.If you have a car that runs a great 60' it might break the pump off.The pump even came with a note from melling about it.So what pump do I run now thats doesnt cost an arm and a leg?Can you run a big block pump on a small block?Has anyone ran the new pumps and had any breakage?I wont run the pump now but wondering what the word on the street is about the pump for a small block chevy.

my understanding is the old numbers (m55,m55hv,m55a) are now crap design thin wall castings. The OLD design thick wall castings are now called melling select pumps. which are numbered.

10553 standard volume- the H55
10552 10 percent more volume and has a 3/4 inch pickup
10550 high volume - the HV 55

.

great post, I'm on my last old HV, so I guess we now want the 10550 for mild stuff.

I'll be telling my buddies to stay away from the new thin wall stuff, thanks

Well if they warned you...

If it makes you feel any better Melling will probably pay dearly for this cost cutting move. Its just another case of overseas imports in the name of higher profits and long time customers will probably just switch over to another brand instead of dealing with Crap, Less Crap and What I used to buy which is Now Considered "Premium" branding schemes.

I'd take it apart and get a Moroso pump which will be built off of the heavy casting.

This is something alot of people dont know about. This information needs to hit the streets it could save a few motors. The m55hv is a pump that people have come to trust and dont know that it has been redesigned.Mellings has went in the wrong direction in my opinion.

i cant just take it apart.the damn motor would have to come all the way out and we just put it back in..this was the pump that my machine shop ordered when they bored it..it wont see the track but maybe once a year..its a street car..around 400 hp...stalled and cammed..you guys think i woukd be alright or what...i cant afford to pull the motor since we just put it in

I would call melling and see what they recommend.Let them know what a burden this has caused. In my opinion it will be fine ,but how do we really know? Its not really the machine shops fault. Most of the time they dont get this information, because they will buy someone elses pump.Mellings has really f'ed up on this one.
