Weight of an LS1/6 Dress engine
Hi does any one know the Weight of an LS1/6 Dress engine, ready to go in but not including any gearbox.
Some people in the UK are throughing numbers around - see below:-
From one poster - the fully dressed LS6 weighs 497.2lbs which is 226kilos. The auto weighs a lighter 457lbs. ]
***(Me trying to clarify things) - Wayne - when you say the fully dress LS6 is 497.2lbs this sounds like you mean with the box as your mext sentence talks about the weight of the auto combo.
The book I looked up in last nite on engine weights - just the engine (for engine swaps for TR's) states the Rover / Buick is 355lb, Ford 320 all iron 475, Ford 302 alloy heads 424, Old style SBC w alloy heads 525 and old SBC iron heads 575lbs. TR4 engine 400lbs - mine is about 363lbs though special alloy head!
I'll check with the guys on LS1tech.com ***
So weight of dressed engine would be great. Must be **** loads less than a SBC in full or half iron spec.
Cheers
Jon

TOTAL, COMPLETE, FULLY DRESSED, FULLY OILED, crate ls1 from GM is 458#s
This is with manifolds, and a clutch.
Clutch tips the scales @ 49#s, and the cast iron manifolds are 13 each. Subtract this from the motor, and you get 383#s, with oil, intake, coil packs, Water pump, pan, filter, TB, you name it, sans manifolds and clutch. Not bad!
BTW, a complete head with valves and springs is 24#s. FYI

many thanks MR Killer. Not gonna be using cast manifolds, mating up to what i have (tubular system) - 383lbs is only 28lbs more than the little 5.0 Buick based Rover I have, but with about 130bhp more!!
