yup, no joke. Northern Va. drivers look out! White vans.... they locate them along the entrance ramps of highways a bunch of other local roads... equiped with emission checking equipment....... remote sensing devices to test vehicle emissions.......(boy does this leave the road open for alot of false "triggers"..) One VA official said "its like an emission radar".......(give me a break) Its a private contractor doing the work under "supervision of the State".......
ok, this "remote sensing equipment" projects an invisable beam, infrared and ultraviolent light across the roadway where vehicles pass. A mirror is set up on the other side of the road...it reflects the beam back across the street/highway/road and into a series of detectors. data collection devices also capture an image of the rear of the vehicle including the license plate......."so that Motor Vehicle records can be checked to identify the owner if a suspected violation is discovered"........ (sheez o flip)
if the remote sensors detect emission levels exceeding those alloweed, the owner recieves a notice from DEQ........ however..(and this is funny).."the letter is not sent to an owner unless emission problems have been detected twice by the mobile unit. (thier way of saying "it wasn't a false reading")
those that do not comply with the terms of the DEQ letter (they have 30 days) face a civil fine...the amount depending on the level of emissions.......

Wow...any more info? I know a fair amount of NOVA guys on another board that would like to know this. I guess this is a "Screw OBDIII + GPS and Wi-Fi to screw ya, and let's get them the old fassioned way". What a crock!
lol so unless you drive by them twice, you arent gonna get a ticket. im totally with the just shutting the car off when going by them. plus what if you are right next to a tractor trailer as you are passing that van. id love to see what happens when they send a ticket to an unlucky toyota Prius hybrid driver telling them that their car pollutes too much cause they were next to a polluting car when they went by the van.

We have some **** like that in Jersey. White DMV vans that hide around bends. By the time u see them its too late. Its F*ck up that old cars can run around with no emmis **** cause they have QQ tags and we cannt.
That just asks for people to vandilze those trucks.
Not that I've ever heard of people doing things like painting over vas car lines or stealing the tires off a post up radar...
