Hmmm... I might have an intake for you try out, Mark. I've done some serious work inside a stock truck intake like yours that should mean a large increase in airflow without killing torque. If you think you can get a before and after dyno I'd like to give it a try

That sounds interesting Cory. I'm always interested it trying different stuff & quantifying results. When will it be ready? You got any bigger injectors laying around that will fit my truck? (> 28lbs, longer, weird connector)

The intake has been done for months. Lots of truck guys tend to flake so it continues to sit. I've just been looking for the right test subject.

The only injector option you have is some marine 42s. Beyond that you must cut the inj plugs and go to car style injectors.

The Avi is finally done. After struglling for 2 weeks making Cory's engine work, the motor is purring like a kitten. And the GT2-3 cam Ellis suggested worked out great. It has nice power across the band, so it should be perfect for towing! And the SSBC front brakes will throw your *** thru the windshield!

Now for the motor saga - when I first started the motor it only had 30 psi of oil pressure. But it sounded ok. So we took it for a test drive & it had 40 psi. As soon as we went WOT the lifters started to make noise & the pressure never went above 40. After some troubleshooting we decided to change the lifters. We found 3 that were damaged. (note we only drove 15 miles)

When we installed the new lifters we had the same problem. So we decided it was time to change the oil pump. When I fired it up with the new ported pump it had over 40 psi at idle, over 50 driving down the road & 75 at WOT. And no lifter noise anymore.....amazing! So I did some minor tuning on it (Ellis had already tweaked in the a/f & got it dead nuts) & towed the TA home & it worked fine.

So after only 2 weeks of work & $500 in parts, Cory's "like new motor" finally runs right. And it's his opinion it was something Ellis & I did to cause this problem. Yeah, we bought the POS!

Wow sounds like alot of work to make a "like new" motor run properly.

Glad to hear it's finally done.

Default Okay.. lets air it out then

Since Mark hs decided to take this to the forum I'll quote the last PM I received from Mark...

"Cory,

The fact is the oil pump was bad/not working right. There are at least 3 lifters athat are physically damaged. That can't happen in the 15 miles Ellis & I drove the motor. So you had the problem when you took the motor out. Even IF you didn't know it. Which I believe you did.

If 15 miles was enough to ruin lifters, I would have more now, which I do not.

Blaming me for this is rather chicken **** of you IMO. Considering it was me & Ellis working on it. Not like we are newbies that don't know what we are doing. Yes I changed all the stuff you said, but I used your o-ring & pump. And I put a smaller cam in than you had. All things you KNEW I was going to do when you sold it to me.

Nice to know you don't stand behind your **** Cory. I will be sure to let everyone know. **** you very much!

Mark

PS Too bad you didn't come over with Jimmy Saturday & tell me this to my face."

Nice. My reply is in the next post.

Default My reply to the last PM

and here is my reply... just sent...

Mark,

I know that it makes little to no difference what I say now. I'm not going to refund you any money and you will still be angry. But here it is anyway since you want to openly discuss this...

I have worked very hard over time to earn and maintain a reputation as a very fair buyer and seller. I have never sold anything to anyone that I did not have confidence in. If I had something questionable, I pointed out the issues and proceeded with the deal if and only if the buyer was aware and it was fine.

I did not pass off a bad engine on you.

I don't do that, have never done that, and will not in the future. Unlike some other people around here, I have the integrity to stand up for what I know to be right. I don't conceal problems. I especially don't try to screw over people I know or consider to be friends. In fact, I go out of my way to make a very good deal to them. If I didn't have a great reputation you would never have bought this engine from me. If I did not have the well deserved reputation, Ellis and others would not have even suggested it or supported the decision. Don't try to treat me like I'm a common dirtbag, fly by night trader. You know (as do all the others) that's not the case.

I sold you an engine that was running perfectly with good oil pressure everywhere in the RPM band. There were no lifters ticking or clacking, there was no oil consumption, there were no problems. The engine ran like a raped ape and took off hard at 3500 rpm every time I drove it. There was no reason for me to suspect anything wrong with that engine. It performed flawlessly. As such, I presented it as it was and you accepted it.

Now, you take said engine and then do the conversions necessary to install it in your truck. This includes the removal of the corvette oil pan, oil pickup tube, the oil pick up tube o-ring seal, and the replacement of those items with your own oil pick tube and pan.
Then you also changed out the camshaft for one better suited to your application - all things that were expected to be done. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say that you work to the best of your ability and do everything right to install it. But you still had to disturb the oiling system and something could have gone wrong and gone unnoticed. Stuff happens. Even the best race engines still blow up sometimes. The point is that things can and do go wrong without misdoing on anyone’s part. Then someone’s feelings get hurt. Then that guy thinks someone else should pay for it. And here we are.

There is no mention of how good the engine runs after you got through the stumbling blocks and corrected the issues that popped up.

There is no mention of the fact that a new LQ4 crate motor costs $3385 from SDPC plus shipping. That motor also does not include the full set of accessories that you received with the engine you bought from me. The one you bought from me had every accessory. It even had the good coil packs. The fact is that engine I sold you included basically everything you needed to drop it into a vehicle except the intake manifold, fuel injectors and fuel rail. It even had a new corvette alternator. It had the starter. It had the sensors. It had hardened pushrods. It had some great ported heads, with good valves, too. I clearly gave you a very sweet deal with quite a bit more value than the asking price. But all that pales in the presence of my refusal to submit to your demand for a $500 refund on the deal.

The fact is you’ve got a lot more than $500 coming back to you on this deal. You’ve already sold the camshaft to another NW member. By the time you sell the rest of the unused parts, like the 2-piece corvette oil pan which sells on ebay for $180-200 regularly, you'll still be money ahead on the deal. What does a corvette accessory kit (accessory brackets, water pump, less than 200 mile alternator, less than 200 mile power steering pump, Idler brackets and pulleys go for? What about the coil packs? What about the exhaust manifolds I gave you in the deal? You’re still well ahead on this deal, but not far enough in your opinion.

So please don't act like you got screwed. I did not shaft you as you suggest. Your first mention of a problem suggested that I passed a problem on to you. Then you start mentioning a refund. Then you finally arrive at a $500 figure that includes priority shipping on components that you selected. As if I owed you for some delivery deadline you set upon yourself. I sold you that engine months ago. It was only after some other unfortunate business happened to your car that you went into crisis mode and decided I should share your discomfort.

So no, I will not refund any portion of what you have requested, as the deal was more that equitable and there was no misdeed on my part as you have suggested. You have more than enough equity remaining in the deal as it is.

Sincerely,

Cory

PS... Why on earth would I waste half a day to come and tell you in person that I'm not going to submit to your ridiculous request for money? You shouldn't have even asked me. You have tremendous nerve and ego

Nerve & ego?! Yeah, you're right Cory, why on earth would I expect a motor that cost me as much as a new Escalade motor from Scoggin Dickey to work right? And I have no problem with letting others know how you stand behind something you sell. $3500 is a lot of money to me!

The point is, all your positions are good.....right up until I tell you I have 3 lifters that are damaged, colapsed by over 1/4", and more that are soft. Tell me, when was it in your vast experience with engines that you saw that happen in 15 miles of normal driving with 40 psi? If you remember one, I better take my motor apart again because we put 30 or more on the new lifters before we gave up & changed the oil pump & the problem went away.

So yes, the engine you sold me had a problem IMO. And as I recall, you were the first to suggest (to someone else) paying me money for the lifters. But whatever, life has a way of working things out in time.

Since that last blast comes from a guy that continually hides his myriad screw-ups... I'll just let it slide.

I'm not sure who you aimed that last comment at Cory. If it was me, I'm confused. I'm always trying to tell people about what went right or wrong with my projects so they can learn from my experiences. And I've posted lots of both.

If that was aimed at Ellis, you're an idiot! He's forgotten more than you know.

But please tell us Cory, WHY did you give up on the Corvette project after 500 miles?

And you said a lot of things that are only half-truths Cory, so let me set the record straight on some things:

The SDPC engine I was looking at was a complete NEW 6L with all the accessories including the exh manifolds. Plug-n-play. For the same price as your motor. I bought yours to 1) help out a friend & 2) it had a nice set of heads on it. I wanted a towing motor & Ellis said you had this one & would stand behind it. Turns out 1/2 of that was correct.

Your motor had a cam I didn't want & had to replace (that I sold to partially pay for the new one I had to buy....you seemed to have left that minor detail out, like I somehow profitted from this). Yours also had an oil pan on that that I had to replace (which by the way is of NO use to me or most people that might want to buy my old engine....again you make this sound like it's a good thing). Yours did not come with an intake manifold (which I didn't need, but might be an issue when I try to sell my 5.3). But you did give me a set of 6L heads (which I don't need & had to send to the machine shop before they can be used). And the acc would be great, IF I had a Vette to use them on.

I knew most of these things going in, but thought it was worth it because of items 1 & 2 above. Turns out I was wrong.

Oh, and in spite of what you or anyone else on that side of the pond thought, the Lingenfelter cam wasn't causing the problem. DUH! Ellis & I even bought another cam to install just to prove it to you guys. The GT2-3 is back in the truck now & running just fine. Maybe you can think of something else to blame all of this on.....the oil filter maybe?

PS all those "good parts" that I removed are sitting in Ellis' garage - the lifters, the o-ring & the pump. If anyone is stupid enough to use them, you can have them for free. Cory swears they work perfectly - BOHICA.

I just wanted to say a few things before I let this thread die.

I can see both sides of this story. I think that both of you guys need to step back and think about each others position and then call each other and get this straightened out one on one.

Mark, you know why that engine was pulled and it wasn't because it was making noise. I heard the car ran and I can tell you that it was good to go AS IS and pulled due to other "project car" difficulties.

Cory, I am sure that you can see that Mark is frustrated with the many things that have been going on lately.

You guys need to work this out OFF LINE.

Ryan K.
