looks like the lifter roller was stuck. maybe dirt or something locking it up.

I had a lifter come out of an LT1 looking like that on me before...the lifter guide had failed (LT1's have a spider in the valley that holds the guides down, and it bent up and let a guide free) which caused the lifer to spin in the bore and then the roller wasn't rolling on the cam anymore...in an LS1 the guides are plastic and totally different, but the principle is the same, how does the lifter body fit into the guide? Could the lifter have rotated in it's bore?

the wear looks to straight across the plane for it to have gotten turned. it simply appears that it locked up for what ever reason.

Scary! Wondering now weather or not to go with the Ls7's on my cam swap...? That missing chunk stay up top or are you gonna have to pull the pan to get it out? Good luck.

i had a cam wipe out like that once and it cut grooves in the bearings. You might pull a rod cap or two to check the bearings.

Get Comp 850-16, they will work fine and get brand new trays.
What year block you have?

I've heard rumor of this and now I see the proof.
It's a factory lifter, it isnt meant for heavy spring pressures and hi rpms and aggressive cams.

We use Morels link bars when ever we can.

How about comp 875-16 "R" type lifters? Or is that overkill?

I prefer Morrels then, Comp R lifters are a pain in the **** when it comes to preload.

I run 850-16 in all my motors to 7000 rpm. and up to .620 lift with 0 issues to date, proper geometry and preload a must.
