Default Another Rearend Bites It!

So I've been pretty excited since I got my car back from having the tranny rebuilt. Got a rebuild kit good to 750hp from Tick Perf. Along with that I put in a new Cartek clutch which is a badass clutch that grabs unbelievably well. Cars been driving good, couldn't wait to go launch it, except I'm on bald nitro's. Well my friend on here, TitanWS6, bought HennyTime's old ZR1 rims and two had Hoosier DR's on them. Steve gladly offered those to me to go try out the new clutch. So we go out to the track, set my tires to 18psi, after the street cars lanes 1 and 2 start running. I go up, do a nice burnout and line up. Rev to 2500 cause I don't know these tires, light turns green I dump it and all I got is a loud bang and the car moves barely two feet. I thought maybe I popped the driveshaft. Go to nuetral then first again. The car kind of revs but doesn't move and I hear things grinding and chattering. Tried reverse with the same result. Track officials call for the jack and dollies to put underneath the rear tires to push it back.

Couples hours later, get the car to a friends house and had the backend up in the air. We try to spin the driverside tire but it was locked, so we spin the passenger tire and hear tons of grinding and clinking from parts in the rearend and, as I watched in disbelief, the driverside tire wobbled back and forth but didn't spin.

The car is at a friends house that works at holler chevy so he can do the work, but we didn't crack it open tonight. He will tom, expecting to find a broken pinion and probally a broken axel. So this is rearend #2 GONE!!!

Been there, done that twice myself, not at the track though. After the 2nd time I refused to drop any more money in the 10 bolt. I ended up parking the SS for like 6 months until I saved enough up to buy a 9". Best thing I ever did. I should have taken everyone's advise and done a 9" before go fast mods, but what fun is that??

+1 I trashed my carrier on the 11th. With a mortgage, etc - I can't spend $2K + on a rear for a 2nd car.

I feel ya man. My car has been sitting on jackstands with a broken axle for about 3 months. Don't want to put a penny in that 10 bolt.

Although I am fortunate enough to have a Midwest Chassis fab 9" coming within the next few days.

Good luck.

Thats my biggest fear! I hate the thought of my tranny or rear going out after i spend $4000 on my engine in a few weeks.... Cuz i dont have another $4000 just sitting around for for a built tranny and rear.... it would take me damn near a year to save that!

Well I just spent $2500 on the tranny after everything is done so at least I don't have to worry about that for awhile. I have a bunch of other mode on the way for the car, but I guess they won't be going on till I can afford a new rearend.

If anyone has a stock one around please let me know. I really don't want to have to ship one and pay extra $$$!

i have a posi and axles for sale if you need them for now until you can get a 9" (ive seen too many 12 bolts grenade). the posi is from a 2:73 geared rear but the gears come with them (i know its not what you need. just thought i would throw it out there). the axles from the same rear. 3 channel. no TC. $100 for all. i am in jupiter though.

Sucks to hear, I'm glad I got a car with a built t56 and 9 inch. Now all I need is upgraded driveshaft.

I imagine you can get a 10 bolt or yours fixed for a decent price. Just stick to weak tires.

Amazingly, it's not going my way. I figure I'll just put in a whole new rearend instead of paying for new gear set, axles and so on. It'll be a lot cheaper that way. But I'm not finding anything. The best I've found got an offer for is in missouri and I really don't want to pay that to be shipped.
