Okay there seems to be some confusion about what the term TMU means and how this car became TMU. TMU means true miles unknown. It is what a car has to be called in the state of Florida when a odometer breaks or stops working.
Here is the story behind the car. I bought the car at a wholesale auto auction. There was a delay in the title. For 3 months or so I didnt know the car was TMU until the title came back as such. The odometer at the time read 170000 or so. By chance I ran into the previous owner at a muscle car meet in Ocala who recognized the car. He then informed me that the odometer had went out about 5 or so years ago and he got another from a local salavage yard called LKQ. He then informed of a rough estimate of the car's mileage when he traded it in. I added how many miles I had driven it since I got it and that is the estimate for the miles.
On another note that odometer went out and I found the problem. The insulation for the wiring had melted and was frying the odometers. I had the wire and the odometer replaced with the one closest I could find to the estimated mileage on the car. The current odometer reads about 8000 miles less than the estimated miles but does work.

Well that just about sums everything up huh!
BTW, I have heard of the odometer issue more than once as well. I guess it is a problem with the 98's b/c the other 2 times i have heard of this it was on a 98 model year F-Body. Not to mention, My 98 has the exact same issue as we speak. Just never really drove my car for more than a month since I've had it, So I have yet to fix it.
Glad you shared that with us. It helps with knowing what to expect!
The more I see this car the more I want it lol!
