Default Smallish Spartan Spec'd cam/tune makes +80rwhp over bolt ons. Final #'s 409/394

Another example of this cam making 424rwhp, stock heads
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...referrerid=183

This setup is pretty simple, with a lot left in it but the customer wanted a basic setup with perfect driveability. His requests were at least 380 rwhp, and daily drivable. All #'s were made through FULL exhaust. No cutout.

Details:
-02 T/A M6
-Pacesetters w/ Junk Pacesetter Y-pipe
-Magnaflow catback
-Spartan Spec'd 228/232 cam
-Comp 918 Single Springs. Lift on BOTH sides is BELOW .600
-Stock 241 heads
-Stock LS6 intake
-Stock ported TB
-Stock MAF

Car drives smooth as silk. Valvetrain is quiet, and this cam can run on 918's all day/year long with no problems.

*Cam dyno by itself. #'s are SAE*

*Comparison between bolt ons, and Cam swap gains*

That came made A sick torque curve.. Like i want to go buy that right now.

Seems like A pretty strong running car for the size cam. Hows idle? Must feel insanely strong with the way it pulls from 3500-6300ish.

The curve is what I'm most proud of. You won't find me building too many huge cam/peaky cars that require a 4:10+ gear to go anywhere, I don't care for them. I like building cars that make USABLE TQ for a street driver.

Car idles like a baby at 900 rpm.

Looks really good Josh. I just tuned a car with bolt-ons, stock 853 heads, LS6 intake, and a 227/235 113LSA cam this weekend that made very similar power and torque. No need to go to a donkey cam when the mid-size cams are kicking butt.

Weird cam choice Pat. How much overlap?

Yea I don't run donkey cams by my own choice, only when the customer requests it. The highest I'll go in duration on either side with a street car is 236.

5 degrees of overlap at .050". My DD streetable limit for a 346 is 7 degrees of overlap at .050". After that, the street manners degrade faster than the power rises and it gets more difficult to tune. The 8 degree split helped carry the power nicely above it's power peak with a smallish intake lobe and will leave lots of growing room for the spray.

Pat,

Do you think that a cam cam like that will pass smog in Ca.?
