Default New Dash in 1994 TransAm GT

Had her in to get a new AC evaporator coil installed. In the process, the shop shattered my dash pad and ripped the vinyl pretty nasty on my dash.

They are willing to make it right and we have a new dash pad but the dash is proving difficult. The part is discontinued and not available from the dealarship.

There have been none even approaching the condition mine was in for a 1993-1995 Firebird in the local junkyards.

(Supposedly from the dealer, the dashes changed 1993-1995, 1996-1999, 2000-2002.)

I CAN find some decent looking 2000-2002 dashes on ebay.

1. Anyone have a line on a mint condition 1993-1995 dash?

2. What is needed to be changed over in order to put a 2000-2002 dash in my 1994 TA?

Thanks in advance,

Spektre

I was always under the assumption that they were all the same. As far as I know, they only things that changed were the consoles and switch between digital and analog odometers. Although, the colors changed to Ebony in 2000. Perhaps I'm wrong though.

No mods are needed to put the 00-02 ebony dash in . All the mounting points are the same . The color is quite a bit darker though as opposed to graphite on the 93-96's .

Color's
93-96 - graphite
97-99 - Medium grey ....lighter than 93-96
00-02 - Ebony ....darker than 93-96

IF the 94 in this post doesnt work out try Hawks third gen . They sell used 4th gen interior parts .

Mechanically we're good then. What about electrically? Do the harnesses mate, etc.?

IIRC the dash itself changed slightly between 96 and 97 as well. the dashpad between the 93-96 and 97-02 cars is not interchangeable. i have seen someone use a 97-02 dash pad on a 93-96 dash but it left a gap right around the little curve near the corner just to the left and in front of the passenger side airbag.

I had a 2002 ebony dash in my 95 Trans Am and didnt expirience a problem like that at all . The ONLY difference I could possibly see is a slight variation in the contour line where the dash pad meets the dash top panel ( the shelf looking plastic panel by the windsheild . I used a 2002 dash top panel as well , so I cant comment if the contour line of the 93-96 panel meets up right . That 02 piece bolted right in as well .

As far as the electronics go , you will just need to attach the exisiting harness to the new dash . Take lots of pics , lol ....if u want everything back exactly where it should be its tedious routing the harness thru the dash like stock , as several areas of the harness , like where it snakes over the steering column , are really thick .

The shop will be doing the work, so I'll just have to look out for harness routing. What I am more interested in is do all the connectors have the same pinouts/physical dimensions. Does it truly just plug in, or do you have to build out adapters?

I think it will fit/work but it doesn't line up perfectly like you said.
