anybody have a 3 series carrier...
That doesn't look like this one?

Prefer posi, but will take an open carrier for the time being.
I wonder if I can just get that top piece?
It looks like its just 4 bolts.

As little as possible.
I'm so broke right now, this couldn't have happened at a worse time.
How much are you looking to get?
Anybody in the LA area have one, so I can get it going this weekend?

I got a 3 ch torsen posi. It's different in length. Its longer from the surface that the ring gear rides on to the passenger side bearing. If I put shims on the left side to get that right backlash, the right axle is too far in (c clip wont be retained) and the left axle isn't in enough so I can't get that clip on.
If I center the carrier with shims so the axles are centered, the ring gear doesn't make enough contact with the pinion. It's like I need a spacer for the ring gear.
I've never seen this before. I thought 3 & 4 ch carriers were the same.

The torsen you have is most likely a 2 series and you need a 3 series.
OK i thought about it. Are you reuseing your old gears?
If so 3 series gears wont work on a 2 series carrier.
I may be wrong so if someone else knows better feel free to correct me.

Awesome, thanks for the pics, that's exactly what I'm seeing here.
The Guy that I got the diff from said that car had 3.42s, must have been gears made for 2series carriers.

I'm not 100%, I hate the rearend portion of GM ASEP and the ASE class was a long time ago. If someone esle knows better feel free to step in.
Is your car an auto or stick??
I agree. If you have a 2 series carrier you can use 2 series gears (obviously) or 3 series gears with a spacer. If you have a 3 series carrier you can only use 3 series gears. All differential housings are identical, only differences are which series carrier are inside and tcs/non-tcs. Tcs cars have the relcutor rings on the axles and non-tcs cars have reluctor ring on carrier.

Finally got time to work on the car. Got it going tonight. A very big thank you goes out to George (Geovette) and Shane (Ls1w) for going out of their way to get me the parts that I needed.
