Thumbs up CTS-V dynoed

Just a few hours ago I witnessed a beautiful, paper-plated, silver CTS-V dynoed at MTI. The car is definitely the nicest car GM has in it's line-up.

BTW, anyone wanna guess what this Silver Terror dynoed?

Since Leo is SLOW to answer, I'll do it for him.

It dynoed 318 - 319 rwhp. No, that is not a typo. We were just as disappointed. I checked the programming and it is virtually the same as the Z06 Vette. Exhaust is not too bad but there is a huge resonator in the middle of the car that merges both pipes together. Must costs some power there. Dropped the air box and put a K&N cone on the end of the MAF and only picked up another 6 rwhp.

MTI Stage II heads/cam are next...

Doesn't the Z06 dyno 350-360rwhp from the factory? How can it lose 40rwhp just from exhaust?

Is the cam perhaps different?

Wow, that's terrible.

A 400HP car with a manual transmission only manages to get 320HP to the wheels?

Can there really be that much loss through the driveline, or is it the power overrated?

I was looking at the car on the lift, the exhaust is a big problem, I guess later in the year they are going to offer a Corsa exhaust as a dealer option, rims, slotted rotors, carbon fiber stuff, etc...

Those #'s aren't impressive at all, but with a few tweaks of exhaust system and what not it should fly........especially once you start digging into the motor.....

Thanks for the info!

I'd love to see dyno numbers without that exhaust on it.

That exhaust must be really restrictive......wonder if with a aftermarket exhaust setup how much it would pick up.

Default Custom exhaust

Leo,
Is there room under there for a custom exhaust? Are the extreme bends and routing making the exhast restrictive or is it the mufflers/ exhaust size?

The CTS-V is NOT mine, unfortunately. The exhaust does seem a bit restrictive.

There is TONS of space under the car for exhaust. It comes with factory duals, with plenty of room for custom setups.

318 HP is impossible! Road and Track tested the CTS-V to a quarter mile time of 13.4 @ 109 mph. This beast weighs 3900 lbs. for crying out loud! You may be able to run 13's with 318HP but NOT with IRS and NOT @ 109 mph. I suggest that the car you dyno'd had issues.

The exhaust is definitely not ideal. It's a 2 into 1 resonator (with mixing) back out to 2 with the mufflers tucked neatly under the trunk similar to the 'Vette. This is my first "V". I will sell this in July to buy another to keep. First mod' will be to cut out the resonator. I would expect at least 10hp/10tq pickup and a lot more LS6 noise. Good noise.

Let's not be so quick to raise the BS flag, have you seen the new Motor Trend or Car & Driver? They tested the CTS-V at 13.4-5 @ 105 mph, with a curb weight of 3,850 lbs. Have you dynoed your CTS-V or even witnessed a dyno of one? BTW, you do realize we are talking about rear wheel hp, don't you? The 318 rwhp figure puts the flywheel hp at about 365 hp if you go by a 12-13% drivetrain loss. My guess as to what the CTS-V would dyno was closer to 350 rwhp. It's a little dissapointing but not the end of the world - It's still an incredible car.

I've read the articles in C&D, MT and R&T. My statement still stands. Someone explain to me how a 3900 lb. car can hit those numbers with IRS and runflats while generating only 318 rwhp. It simply can't be done.

Road and Track also has it hitting 100mph in 11.4 secs. That's on par with the following cars:

Car - 0 to 100mph - Horsepower
Vanquish - 10.8 secs - 460
M5 - 11.3 secs - 394
Ferrari 550 - 11.1 secs - 485
S-Type R - 13.0 secs - 390
Maserati Coupe - 11.4 secs - 390

These cars all have similar girth and I doubt highly that their horsepower ratings have been inflated. I also doubt highly that GM could engineer a vehicle capable of this performance with only 318 rwhp. If they could, just imagine what all the stock Z's would do with solid axles and radials.

My BS flag stands.
