Thumbs up New Cold Air for CTS-V Proves great improvements

We just dyno tested our new Cold Air Kit for the 2004 CTS-V and found a great improvement. Here are the number for before and after:

Before on March 13, 2004
Run#4
70.31 degrees
29.54 bar.
324.41 RWHP
318.71 RWTQ

Now after new cold air kit:

Run#12
76.19 degrees
29.70 bar.
345.13 RWHP
335.19 RWTQ

This kit was built here using our shop CTS-V and is available for purchase. We have not done any tuning just dyno pulls. If you are interested in pricing for our new CTS-V Cold Air Kit which bring more than 20RWHP, please contact a sales associate.

Those are some nice improvements, I can't wait to see what a more breathable exhaust system will do on it......

We did some more testing on this new airbox setup on Saturday. With a 10 minute tune (quick Tune) we picked up a total with the airbox of 31RWHP which brings us to 355RWHP. That is what a stock Z06 makes. Here is a photo. We are going to make the airbox out of black metal instead of the polished look. This will be more clean. The price is $249.99 plus tax and includes the following:

1 K&N Filter
1 Cold Air Box
1 Set of weather stripping

You will need a 10MM socket and a flat screw driver for install. We will have about 10 a week done and should have the first 10 this friday. Let me know if you have any questions or would like to order.

Default Airbox Pic

Here is a reduced size version of the pic they sent me.

Any interest in a group buy?
-Ben

P.S.

I've heard of a stock V with ~1500mi getting 337.4 RWHP and 334.3 RWTQ. Not sure the barometer, ambient air temp, altitude, etc. Maybe they loosen a bit over time?

Default Quick Tune?

What does the 10 min quick tune involve? Can we do this ourselves? LS1 edit?

Are you concerned about the metal shroud around the airbox getting hot? This engine puts out alot of heat.

Will this negativly impact fuel milage? (the last one I had on my impala did)

thanks,

Reed

The picture only shows the air box itself. Is the elbow replaced as well?

No the elbow is not replaced. We used the factory one after testing 3 after markets and finding no change in horsepower. There is no worry of the heat affecting the box. The way it was designed was with that in mind, that yes they do put out quite a large amount of heat, and we did not want it getting too hot. It does not affect fuel mileage from what we can tell. We have only had this on since Saturday so there could be 2 or so mileage difference when we fill up. At this point we do not know for sure if that is the case. We have dyno sheets we can email for anyone that is interested. Just send over your email address. Should anyone have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

No you can not do the quick tune unless you have LS1Edit. We have already established a tune for this after working on it for a while in our spare time. It would simply be hooking up your car to our PC and making the changes we found affected the HP increase. We are not concerned with the box we designed because we did it with alot of factors in mind.

How much for a quick tune and box combo. I'm about 3.5 hours away and am contemplating a drive to Charlotte. You can post or PM me. Also thanks for the dyno sheets.

Dank,

Please do! I'm still waiting for custom long tubes, cai, corsa exhaust and dyno tune. Just waiting for More Performance to get all the parts so I can get everything done at once.

I love the sound of Corsas on a V. Has anyone tried simply using a higher flow filter? I think the intake system on a V is actually pretty good because it draws air from outside the engine compartment, which generates HUGE amounts of heat. Where does this system get its air from. I think More Performance should try a closed box that gets air from the fender well.

Default Cold Air Intake

The cold air intake from More Performance has about double the inlet area that the stock unit has. The cold air enters through the grill and is sealed from the engine compartment by using a soft seal that closes against the hood. There is a noticeable difference to the engine sound under hard acceleration and there seems to be more mid and high end power. I do not have dyno numbers to support this. You must take the vendors numbers and decide for yourself. I think you can't go wrong for the price and it has no effect on the warranty.
