Spy Shots: Cadillac CTS-V Plus
Even more horses for the CTS? Bet on it.
by Brenda Priddy (2004-05-10)
As if the 400-horsepower CTS-V Series isn't enough, we photographed General Motors' Performance Division engineers testing an even higher performance version.
Referred to as the CTS-V Series Plus by spectators at the Nürburgring, this CTS mule is said to be powered by a 6.0-liter V-8, and sources are estimating the horsepower to be in the 475-500 range. General Motors is aggressively testing this more powerful CTS, but production plans have not yet been confirmed.
The vehicle show here is actually an older CTS-V mule. The higher-performance CTS-V Plus uses a larger-displacement pushrod small-block engine, so the hood hump should disappear in production.

I can tell the folks that wrote this article don't know much about GM small block architecture as the cite the hood bump as being caused by an increase in dsiplacement.

I'm willing to bet you this is a later version of that test mule everyone atributed to the CTS-VRacing last year
It's very obviously not the CTS-VR that Pratt and Miller is using as this car is being tested on the street (race cars on tested on the track, duh), has no roll cage, and has the CTS 6 lug rims rather than the Pratt and Miller car 5-lug rims.
At any rate the new pics show different side skirts, new spoiler and hood buldge. (plus different rims)

And STS-V

Spy Shot: Cadillac CTS-V/STS-V Plus Cadillac may not be a big name in the UK, but Stateside, it still aspires to being a player in the luxury sector. These shots show muscled-up Plus versions of the mid-size CTS-V and full-size STS-V saloons testing on the Nurburgring. The current CTS-V, on sale in America, already delivers 400bhp from its V8, but GM has engineered the Plus's V8 to put out nearly 500bhp. Reports suggest the STS-V Plus could develop as much as 700bhp from its tuned version of the Corvette's 6.0-litre V8. 0-60mph shouldn't take much longer than five seconds, for either car. Both ride on versions of GM's rear-wheel-drive Sigma architecture; a 4x4 system is also under development, however.
The saloons' brawny looks are undoubtedly eye-catching, though that big raised hood air-intake won't ultimately feature. Both models should handle well thanks to independent front and multilink rear suspension, and considerable time testing on the Nurburgring.
The CTS is one Cadillac product that's a certainty for Europe, though Cadillac hasn't given a date just yet. The STS - GM's riposte to the S-Class and 7-Series - should arrive by 2006. With other big Yank V8 contenders such as the Chrysler 300C and Ford Mustang crossing the water to Europe, are we seeing a revival of American muscle cars? 4Car can't wait to get our hands on a few...
