Warning to GTO M6 owners...
First let me commend Moore Pontiac of St. Louis, MO for all of their great help and attention to my problem. Now, to the story, and a word of warning to other GTO M6 owners...
Some of you read my previous post, but for those who have not, here it is again...
On Friday May 21st, with about 600 miles on my new GTO, I noticed some popping type noises from my clutch pedal while driving to lunch. Thinking that it was just a loose pedal, I figured I would wait until I got home and track down the noise and fix it. I never made it home. Later that evening, on the way home from work, the clutch pedal let out one more really loud pop, and the clutch would no longer disengage...
Roadside assistance sent out a tow and it went to Moore pontiac. The next day, the dealer called me. The ball joint where the clutch pedal assembly attaches to the rod on the master cylinder had popped apart. The rod was damaged, and a new master cylinder had to be ordered as it is a single assembly. The master cylinder came in on Monday, and I had my car back on Tuesday.
Two days, and around 100 miles later, I was on my way home from work when the pedal started making those little popping noises again. I could literally see the dealer and pulled in. They were great about it, gave me a loaner, and sent me on my way. So, yesterday I called to talk to them about it. They had tried a couple of things to fix it and they were still having issues. They had been on the phone with the Pontiac Brand manager, and a tech from Austrailia (The phone bill is going to be bad I bet).
The end of the story is a happy one (I hope). I got my car back today, and after about 30 miles, things are still ok. In the end, they decided that the factory connection to the master cylinder just wasn't going to work. A custom clip had to be fabricated to make sure the connection held.
Now, I don't know if this will be a common issue with all M6 GTO's or not. Since two different master cylinders didn't work, it leads me to believe that the ball on the clutch pedal assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly. Hopefully this was isolated to just my car, but it could be that the way the clutch pedal is attached to the master cylinder is inherently flawed, and all GTO M6 drivers should pay close attention to any sounds that may come from their clutch pedals.
I hope I'm the only one, but just wanted to make sure everyone was aware.
Thanks,
Stoney

Damn, thanks for the info. I plan on buying a GTO when the price is right for a nice used one (hopefully in a few months). Thats a good piece info to be armed with while shopping. thankks again.

The early M6 GTO's had different problems depending on when they were made. I've never heard of this specific problem at all when talking with the GTO brand quality manager.

My 04 GTO has around 6000 miles on it. I have not one lick of problems with the car, other than the thunk sound from the rear when shifting hard that was fixed by my dealer back in March.

I do not believe this is an isolated case as my 2005 GTO with 600 miles is now in the shop for a broken, plastic linkage. Had to stop and pop it back into place three time before I made it 2 miles to the dealership.
Or maybe I clutch/shift funny....

i have 16k miles on my '04 and I have started to notice a popping sound w/ a vibration sometimes when the clutch engages and disengages when i short shift. Also my shifter has felt much rougher and more difficult then when it was new. Did you notice your shifter become rougher as well as the pop? I just want to get an idea of what's going on before i go to the dealer. They are more cooperative if you go in there and have done your research.
