Finally, The Time Has Come - W-Body LS1! - Update
Update on Pg3 - 4/1, page 5 - 7/11, last page 11/20/05 (Whew!)
When someone said, "I coulda had a V8!", I guess I took it too seriously!
My 01 Grand Prix GTP is officially in the operating room for the surgical removal of the trusty 304 whp L67 3800 (PB 13.5 @ 104). The new heart is waiting on the table. It's a fresh-built 383 ci (6.3 liter) LS1 stroker with cam and stage 2 heads, roller rockers and forged bottom end, LS6 intake and Mark Shaner ported TB. The full-up Intense 4T65E-HD 3.29 trans with a 3500 stall converter is going on order next week. Estimates are for around 425 whp as is (N/A). That should turn into 500+ after the turbo next year. After all, it does say "Supercharged" on the side of the car, doesn't it? Folks, I think I've solved the problem of how to make a GTP exhaust sound like a V8!
Now for some ricer payback. I bought a nice high mileage 98 GTP that will get the old drive train from my car. You see, my son is in the Navy stationed in Japan and he needs a new car. He was home on leave in May and drove my car quite a bit. Well he really liked the GP, so he said, "Can I buy your engine?" To shorten all this, when the '98 is finished, he is going to ship it to Japan! Can you imagine a heavily modded GTP being a tuner import in Japan? I think that is payback!

z98, It's a FWD transverse install. I'll take it to the track in reverse just to please all you RWD guys!
New pics will come as milestones are made.
The first is how GM prototyped it in the Impala:
The second is the before (as it was):

Triple 7, time frame for the completed install is something like 2-3 months. I'll post pics as we solve the major problems. Wish us luck, we'll need it!

777, I don't think it's gonna be too bad. There's room and the weight is very close to the same. Wiring harness and electronics will probably be the toughest part, but getting the flywheel/flexplate correct is the touchy thing. Everything else is just plumbing and bracketry.

But I get your drift. Traction is going to be the limiting factor. But in defense of FWD, there's a turbo 3800 GTP that's cut a 1.5 sec 60' and run 10.3, so it can be done. We'll just have to see, right? <lol>

This is an awsome project, and I can't wait to see the results.
I am suggesting we move it to the conversions/hybrid area as I think it would be of help in that area to anyone considering a swap into a FWD platform.

This does sound like a cool project. I love seeing the LS1 in platforms it wasn't intended to be in.
