Default New STS Z71 times..

For those not used to how trucks run let me break it down. My truck runs 16.2@86mph bone stock. It's race weight is 5100lbs.

The track had trouble with timeslip printing so I only have 2 slips but have the other runs on tape.

1st run: 5psi launch Bogged off the line, 12psi total.

60' 2.14
1/8th: 8.52@87mph
1/4: 13.1 @ 106.5mph

2nd run: 7psi launch and 12psi total

60' 1.81
1/8th: 8.00 @ 86.2mph
1/4: 12.62 @ 105.14mph

All other runs were 12.65@106mph with varying 60's. I never got timeslips for all 3 of those runs. I found that if I launch with less than 6psi it feels like leaving off idle with no boost. My turbo is big for my cubic inch.

My trans is toast now. On the 2-3 shift it would take WAAY too long to engage and even when it did it felt like it was struggling. On the way home I tried to floor it in high boost and the rpms flashed to 6k then started bouncing off the limiter, it tired it twice before giving up. I wonder if this is hurting my MPH at the track.

I had to end the night early due to my alternator going out and only seeing 12.5v with the truck running So Brandon pulled some strings and let me make a pass with the big boys so I could hightail it home.

It doesnt make sense that u tarpped 106mph with 5psi and 105mph with 12psi. I think u need to rebuild the tranny or drop a TH400 there. Otherwise awsome times from a heavy truck

No, no. 5psi was the launch boost and 12 was total seen through the run. The faster time was with a 7psi launch and 12psi throughout.

Thanks

awsome times man. i would put a 4L80E in that thing. with that kind power in a 5000+lb 4x4 truck, your going to keep eating up 4L60s for lunch. at my work, we replace/rebuild 60s daily. and these are on stock trucks.

Yup, $3k for a 4L65E that might hold up is not gonna fly. I'm just gonna do the 80E conversion and call it good.

Nice times, that is one flying EX-cab truck ! If your turbo is too big I'll trade you my TE-45 (63mm) for your 67.

nice i just finished my STS install on a tired 346 firebird(128k). Waiting on new motor(408 w/ stg2 heads), but with 3500 stall and the 12bolt 3.73 it pulls like a mother. Tuning this week we only have a base tune now. All I can say is the sts works for us. I have alot of friends with lightning that would like to see this thread. Good runs man and plus get the 4l80e or th400. The 4l60s are crap. GL

Thx guys

I sized the turbo a bit big on purpose. I wanted more top end power than low end to keep me from losing freeway races. And to lessen the wheel spin problem when I'm in 2wd on the street. Plus when this motor goes I'll be doing a 6.0L and then the turbo will be perfect.

I am currently running a GT67 with .81 exhaust housing. Last night I was seeing 12psi but the wastegate is set for about 13psi normally. It's alot of boost but these damn 5.3L motors seem to be about 80-100rwhp behind most 5.7L motors mod for mod and due to the drivetrain in my truck.

HOLY Looks like the g tech wasn't too far off lol. Great runs, looks like that lil STS kit really does work. Can't beat the stock times to STS times at all. Looks like an impressive day for us LS folks. Get that tranny swapped and run er again.

Thx man

I am gonna start looking for a tranny ASAP. The temps are gonna start dropping like mad here pretty soon and I wanna have the truck up and ready before then since that's when every gets their magical ETs to brag about for the next year. Low 12s here I come

Not sure if how much difference it makes but like Parish, I have to run the whole 1/4mile in 4wd. The extra power wont let me switch back into 2wd anymore.
