Default light weight carpet, what wieght savings??

I've done a search on this and haven't found all to much info on it.

I'm looking for some wieght saving mods while I'm putting the car back together. How much savings is light weight carpet over stock carpet/stock carpet w/ sound material removed?

Also, how is the quality of the carpet? I'm not looking for industrial strenght, but I don't want it "fuzzing off" everytime I step on it either.

How is the fit?

ls1speed for $260 seems a little high, anyone else know alternatives(that still look OK)?
If the wieght was high enough it would be worth it, but I just don't see any numbers.

thanks for all the info.

Stock stuff ~ 36lbs

LW stuff ~ 14lbs

I run the Year One carpet. Fit isn't perfect, but no complaints here.

I just installed the year one carpet. Fit looks good. It did not have the cutouts for the rear seat attachment points and I did not cut that out. It fit nice but would be better if cut like factory. Alll in all I am happy with it.

I'm using some lightweight stuff I bought from good ole Wal-Mart. It may weigh 5# total. I used a roll of it in the old Mustang and it fit good if you know how to lay carpet.

The advantage to the Speed Inc and Year One stuff is that it's molded.

I've seen many "do it yourself" jobs, and very few of them looked/fit very good.

Is it much louder in the car with lightweight carpet? Do you hear rattles?
I pulled my carpet out and rode around for a while (LT headers, xpipe, flows dumped before axle) and it was so loud in the car I couldnt hear myself think. I also heard so many rattles I wanted to get out and walk!!

The noise level will go up with the Year One stuff, but it isn't bad.

It has insulation in key areas.

Same carpet from what I understand. The noise level went up but not too bad. I can still have a normal conversation and listen to the radio at sane levels.

You could just 'tack' it in the important areas (low-spots) with some Gorilla glue. There's really no need to glue the entire layout to the floor. As long as the floor is cleaned/prepped good, it won't move My Home Depot carpet ended up looking just as appealing as the Year One 'molded' set I had. It looked great until I tore it back up to replace some of the thick stamped steel with billet. I'll try to dig-up the shots of the Home Depot jobber. I know I have a few somewhere.

Does anyone know if this carpet is still available anywhere? I cannot find it on Year One's site.

Thanks.

This is correct. I think there is one place making them and everyone is selling them under their own name or just not specifying. I thought the fit was mediocre honestly. I guess I was expecting it to fit like a glove like the stock stuff and it was a lot more work to make it look decent. It wasn't as molded as I would have liked is what I'm getting at.

We got ours from 1A Auto. Telephone #888-844-3393 Price $196.95 no tax and free shipping. It is very nice quality molded carpet that goes all the way in one piece to the t-top well. The padding was not attached, so you don't have to tear it off if you don't want to use it. When you first put it in it will look a little lumpy. Don't be alarmed. It will lay down nice after a little while. We didn't heat or glue it at all. Looks very good IMO. Sorry the pics aren't that good. I guess I didn't get a good pic of just the carpet. This was just after we laid it.

Only place it had to be trimmed was the sides by the rocker panels. No sweat at all.
We didn't use the padding so that may be why we had to trim it.
