Default Question on LS1 swap.(Fuel System)

Alright i'm getting all my parts together for my ls1 swap into my 91 camaro(Finaly ). Got about half of it together but i have a question on the fuel part. I'm going to go with a 4th gen tank since they dont have a return line. I already got a fuel pump kit from racetronics for a 99-02 camaro and i'm getting the tank this week. Is there anything else i need other then modifying the fuel lines (or getting 4th gen ones) to get the fuel work.

Thanks
Justin

I wonder where the return output from the 4th gens' filter/regulator connects.

To keep it simple I would go with the 4th gen lines as well when you do the swap. I kept the third gen tank and lines for now, but am running and aeromotive fuel pressure regulator to take care of that part.

Same here w/ third gen plumbing and an Aeromotive regulator.

MrDude did something that sounded simpler w/ a Vette integrated filter/regulator.

I did the vette filter/regulator system with an in-tank pump and it works well, is fairly simple. I'm not looking for 10 sec e.t.s or 125 mph trap speeds but for cruzin'....works good.

you can keep the 3rdgen tank and do what i did:

the corvettes have a filter/regulator... it costs about $35...

it has 3 ports... a In, out, and return..

i removed my fuel lines and had a local shop crimp on some quick connects..

in the pic, on the left is my stock hardline.. you can see where he braized the new ending on... it just clicks directly into the out of the filter, and goes to the engine.
underhood, the ending is the same, and i use a stock like quick connect line between it and the fuel rail. very clean looking.

the upper hose on the right, is the return. its the stock 3rdgen return line, cut short.. the hose was clamped on professionally, with the quick connect.. it just clicks on.

the other line is the stock 3rdgen feed line.. it also just clicks on.

i can use any 99-04 corvette filter, and it works great... best part is:

lines + fittings = $42
filter = $35
factory look and relibilty, priceless..

alright thanks but i've already bought the 4th gen tank and a racetronics pump. I'm just wondering if i need anything else to hook it up, or am i good other then getting 4th gen lines/modifying my own.

P.S. I got the 4th gen tank basicly for free thats why i'm going this rout.

I haven't seen any other 3rd gen swaps done this way, you may be breaking new ground.

I'd price up what it will take to make the "free" tank work versus MrDude's route or the Aeromotive way.

Well, i've seen 3rd gen guys using the plastic tanks on there cars without the ls1 so i figure why i couldn't just use it with a ls1. I think i saw somebody doing this or planning on doing it somwhere just can't remember. I just want to know if theres anything else i need becuase i can't see anything else. I just hook up my line to the tank and modify the other end to fit to the ls1. That or find a fuel line from a ls1 and just use that.

I did a search on 'plastic AND tank' on thirdgen.org and found flyinlow92rs is running a 4th gen tank...and an Aeromotive regulator.

thanks a lot i was reading about it over there but didnt know that flynlow92rs did that. Maybe i'll give fbodymotorsports a call and ask them. Do you think this is worth it or should i just send back my fuel pump and get one for a 3rd gen and modify my stock fuel to fit for the ls1?

MrDude_1 way of fuel swap is the easya nd cheap and workin version and will for sure supply fuel for any stocker and up to 11sec car .....if you have deeper dreams go with bigger fuel rails and and and but beware to spend big money on those parts then!

MrDude_1 again a nice and simple idea to makes things easy!

yea, it made it pretty easy... athough i donno when that stocker style regulator topps out.

i tried researching it here and on some vette boards... do you have any idea how hard it is to find tech info about vettes online?! lol. you'd think noone works on them.....

i have no idea where it tops out at flow wise, but from what ive gathered, the flow drop is just what the filter causes, and the regulator isnt much of a restriction for the 3/8" line... and there are guys running high 10s with them... so for most of us, we should be fine.

I wonder where MR.Dude got the idea from.

So far, I believe we are the only thirdgen guys running this type of set-up, and I'm probably the only one running a TPI pump, but I have had no problems thus far with this set-up. The car gets romped on pretty good everytime it gets out so... I think I better knock on wood or something. Also, his connections are a little better than mine...... "Fuel Injected" rated hose and hose clamps at all of the connections/splices for me, its even cheaper that way.

No. CA will require you to have the 4th gen LS1 plastic tank with ALL the EVAP and fuel lines correctly setup the way a 4th gen car would.

I had to go that route myself, since I'll be moving to San Diego soon. Simple and easy is good for some, but some of us have to deal with more than just making it run.
