Default New discoveries for LS1 into Mustangs Swaps

Turns out an LS1 will bolt into a Mustang like it came from the factory...

Using a 4.6L factory Ford K-Member and factory 4.6L Cobra motor mounts, slightly modified, the LS1 slides in and fits great while using the factory GM F-body oilpan and exhaust manifolds.

The factory Ford motor mounts only need to have the 2 front holes rounded out just a little with a drill bit, and the 1 back hole needs to be cut and moved about 1/2" and rewelded.

The factory GM F-body manifolds will clear the steering shaft, but the flange rubs the steering shaft. The flange will need to be cut and have about 1" of pipe installed then have the flange rewelded for enough clearance. That is of course unless you have custom headers made.

The first pic is the driver's side mount, second pic is the passenger side mount, third pic is of the modification needed on the motor mounts, and the fourth pic is of manifold to steering shaft clearance.

**UPDATE about tranny mounts on Page 5...**

The car is a '96 model year, but swap a 4.6L K member into a Foxbody car and I'm sure it'll work just as well.

Mystic is that your car? I really want to do the same swap into my 2000 Gt but I just want to see what obstacles I will need to overcome to get it to work.

All the Ford boys say do a Cobra motor swap but why spend all that cash when I can do a nasty ls1 for about half the price.

well, that's promising as far as the mounts and the K-frame go. I'm planning on doing it to a Fox in ayear or so. In the meantime, I'm just builfing a stupid powered 2.3T to hold me over until I can afford to do the LS1 transplant the right way

I had always dreamed about that kind of swap. Driving a mustang with a chevy heart will be great . Especially that the Camaro`s r so bulky comparing to stangs .

As far as I know, there aren't any differences in the 2 K-Members

Cool car! Great job on the k-member find! I might just have to do one of these conversions yet. Imagine a stripped out coupe weighing probably 2800 lbs with a 500 HP LS1; you're talking easy mid 10's!

BTW, I like the intake ducting for the MAF. Did you fab that yourself?
