AFRs 205s and 224/224 cam A4
I have posted a digital picture of a dyno pull with this set up on my website. No A/F is with it, so sorry about that. But see my notes below regarding any details on this.
411.6 rwhp and 408.2 rwtq (unlocked TC).
Details:
A4 with 3.23 gears (stock rear)
SY3500
224/224 581/581 114 cam
AFR 205 66cc untouched with GM steel shim gasket
LS6 intake
ported TB
GMAF
ASP crank
Lid and FTRA
Pacesetter LTs (no cats)
Cutout
Several notes about the system.
1. These are corrected numbers on a 248C.
2. Tuned by myself. I only had 2 hrs on the dyno, so I could only play with a couple of tunes and my AFR was still hovering between 12.0 and 12.3. So I am still rich and have more to gain.
3. This is an A4 with an UNLOCKED TC (I did not lock the TC - the numbers were good enough to me and I don't run locked anyways). So the peak hp would have been much higher.
4. Slightly smaller cam than AFRs for emissions.
5. No EWP or 90mm intake.
6. It was locked in 3rd gear and my runs were from 4400 rpm to about 6800 rpm. This means my TQ is a little higher. Power did not fall below 400 rwhp up to 6800 rpm.
7. Most runs were with cutout open. But my runs with the cutout closed only lost me 2 rwhp peak and the same tq. So the SLP dual-dual works fine for me.
8. The heads are untouched, and I am using the thick GM gasket, so my compression is ~ stock. No raise CR.
With only basic mods, a partial tune, and an A4 unlocked, if this doesn't say how good AFR heads are with a 224 cam, I don't know what does. If I added the 90mm intake, EWP, had a 6-spd, and bumped CR, I'd say 460-470 easily.
Thanks to Tony at AFR for answering my questions and to Tom Izzo at Speed Inc. for not only supplying my parts, but also answering the 30 questions I had for him.

True enough. I'd say since my tranny was locked in 3rd (not the TC though) that the torque from the SY3500 is bumped up 20 points, roughly.
I am happy with the numbers myself. Really, a H/C setup in an A4 with the TC not locked making over 410 rwhp is amazing, IMO. Especially with a mild cam.

I should have track times in a couple weeks time, so I will post those. I don't think the nittos will hold anymore - thank god, or else the rear end would go south very quick.

I was surprised how hard it was to find #'s with a 224/224 cam, since those cams are so common, and the AFRs are so highly toted. Perhaps it just shows how impressive the 224/228 cam set up is with those heads - everyone just follows that route.
But I will NOT complain about the performance of these heads. I think these numbers are high for an unlocked A4 h/c car (and small cam).

I have to strongly recommend these heads. And I'd say they work with an emissions friendly cam.
I'd be interested to hear anyone else trying these heads with smaller cams too. Just to compare.
