Default Which AFR heads to use

If I'm going to keep stock bottom end for 1 year, use FAST 78mm intake, FMS 13 Cam, and run 150-175 wet...what model AFR heads 1610?

Assuming you'd have told us if it was bigger than a 346, you want the 205's....

205's are good for up to 396 CID.

Not to intrude on the post but just wondering how do you guys think the Patriot Stage II heads stack up to the 205's? I've been wanting some AFR's but didn't know how they were against the heads I have now? I figure you get more power from the 205's but how much more torque and hp can be expected?

GMHTP just did a article, 37 rwhp and 33 lb ft. (tuned) on an intake and catback only '99 vette, you could call it an almost stock car. Cam and headers should yield much bigger results.

More advertised gains here

In an effort to keep questions to the point infor is sometimes left out...doing a cam in 2 weeks or so...thinking about AFR heads too. My plans are to move to a 402 in a year or so...i'd hate to buy heads twice. So what would be the downside of buying 225 on the stock engine? Bad performance? Won't work?

Well looks like I put off purchasing heads too long...the AFR site says 4+ weeks for delivery...we are doing the cam in two weeks. I guess that's the way it goes...it will have to wait 18 mos for the new motor.

You can always find someone trying to sell some on here about every 2 days...literally. But if you have certain specs/goals, then it is understandable waiting.

Sure it'll work, but you'll lose some low end torque. Don't get me wrong, the 225s are great heads, but better for higher displacement engines.

You should think of the heads and cam as a system. If you decided to go for say the Patriot LS6 stage II, you should think about matching it with a cam that produces the torque curve you want. As a basic cam, something 224/228 570-590 lift on 112 (M6) or 114 (A4) LSA. The higher velocity 205s make great power on a 346, but when you go to a 402, you'll want something bigger (heads and cam, like 225s and big cam (230-240 around .600 lift in 112 LSA.) IMHO...

Maybe with some heads, but probably not with AFR 225s; thicker deck.

I think the AFR 205s are a good choice for me...they go with theh FAST intake, FMS 13 cam...I guess if I can get some heads, which looks possible, I guess they come with springs...I already purchased the nice spring, seat, retainer kit from Futral...I wonder what i'd do ...use the Manley double springs and dump the ones that come with the AFR? Or vice versa...maybe I return springs and get rockers and lifters instead? Allan help!!

They can probably hear my Loudmouth (exhaust system, that is...) in Great Falls from here...

Congrats on the new F13. I can't wait to put one in. I'm feeding the piggy bank right now. Which srpings did you get?

The "best" install package Futral offers ... I think they are dual coil Manley. I'm trusting Futral on this one...my mechanic is happy with the choice.

Re the "small cam" comment post by someone else i didn't quote...there are only 3 cams. Stock, small and big as ****!! Small works for me!! LOL!!
