How much did you get the motor for? With Computer and harness also? When my rack n pinion swap is done on my 70 shortbed, I'm wanting to do the swap also, but backed by my t350 tranny.

Thats a cool swap, I have always liked those trucks. I know someone with a core 4L60-E from a 98 SS, but I'm sure it needs a complete rebuild if he still has it.

Add me to that list - I'd love to see what's involved on a R&P swap on one of these trucks. My 150k mile old original power steering gearbox is a bit... 'seasoned'

I never realized it as much before, but now that I've driven plenty of miles in my fiance's Miata...and even my daily driver '88 Volvo has tighter steering...yeah, I figure it's time to do a bit of work on it. The lower weight up front / extra output of the Camaro power steering pump just seemed to make things that much more of an issue.

engine is from a chevy truck its a 5.3l and stock truck acc. the block is iron, just pained aluminum. i liked the acc. setup better on the truck for ease of maintance, for my application. also the alt. mounted in the lower dr. poistion interfers with the frame rail.

Damn, sounds like a decent buy . I found a rack for a camaro swap, manual steering though. Just need to get my vette back together so I can start back n the truck. What tranny did you have with the six? Swapping tranny at all?

I had to do the same thing. I only had the engine. I would say if you are using the factory wiring reworked, it would be better to get a truck transmission because of the nuetral safety. I got my transmission for a shop that rebuilds them. I paid a little more because I didnt have a core. It is a camaro which works, but I had to tie the nuetral safety together. So I could start it in gear, which is not most desired. Do you have a computer and wiring for it. There are pleny of people here that can direct you if needed. I cant wait to drive mine. I got it started. Need to finish the brakes and steering to dive it though.

Here is mine

The headers are 5.3L Edelbrock Ceramic Coated. I would not recommend getting them. I had to notch the frame and use camaro towers. The air tube is from a 04 GTO with LS1. Works awesome. I will let you know about the gas mileage when I find out. I also moved my battery to the drivers side because I wanted to maintain the factory look. If you get a wiring harness made instead of reworking it will cause less stress and more of what you want. Like you can add length to put the computer where you want and not have all the extra connections

Header clearance, battery move and computer location

hmmm..good to know bout the headers, what headers will work with our frame? the mounts im gonna use are a ls1 plate-to-old style mount and a performanceonline motor mount kit, i think itll all work, but not 100% sure yet.bout how much for a custom made harness like you said? does that have the pcm also?

Headers: I believe Corvette ones work. A lot of people are using Manifolds instead of headers. You may be able to get Some street and Performance headers to fit. A reworked wiring will cost about $350 and a custom wiring is about $650. I have a pcm, in the pictures that I posted you can see it next to the power brakes. I had Nelson Performance reprogram it. He did a awesome job.

The Hooker shorties (Camaro application) work fine, though they're not the greatest for outright power. I'm eventually going to get some custom ones made, probably by getting a friend to rework a set of standard SBC longtubes for the truck. Either that, or I'll get another set of Camaro longtubes and see if he can modify the driver's collector, since that's the only spot there's a real issue.

Given the work involved in reworking the factory harness...the money spent in having Speartech rework it is incredibly well spent.

Well I paid that much to get my factory on reworked. He added the relays and fuses. You can do it yourself as well. Currentperformance.com did mine and he also sells the connectors and items if you want to do it yourself. I wish I had one made, because he has everything labeled for you and you can have extra length to mount your computer anywhere. Also you wont have extra connectors that will have to be cut off after you decide that they are not needed. You can check out his site if you want. Speartech who is a sponser here, also reworkes and make new wiring harness. Just to clarify for you it is $350 to rework your factory or $650 for one made. Dont forget you will have to get your computer reprogramed as well. There are many options there as well.

I will answer your questions as you come across them, since I am a little further than you.
