Question SD tuning a 1998 car...

OK, so let's say I want/need to ditch the MAF on my 1998 turbo TA.

What is the current status of speed density tuning for this year PCM? Last time I tried to find info on the subject, it sounded like the '98 cars weren't supported.

The car will be set up to produce something on the order of 600 rwhp/rwtq using a T67, expecting to use something on the order of 10 lb boost. So we're not talking crazy numbers here, but still something past what the MAF can handle.

Thanks in advance for any info,

Rich

What kind of performance do you get out of it now with the maf? From what I understand- and it is limited, you should be fine up to 8 but you are already at 10 right? I would think that you would need 2bar support and in that case I don't think anybody currently supports the 98 OS for that. PM eallanboggs he has a 98 turbo setup with efilive he might be able to help.

The car is a brand new turbo install (with AFR 225s), and is outflowing the MAF earlier than anticipated... getting some boost spike early on and having a difficult time tuning via "normal" means. Switching from a simple Boost-T controller to an Eboost2 to try to get a handle on it. I see what you're saying; I forgot about the 2bar thing. Thanks for the heads up on eallanboggs.

Im pretty sure if mightymouse is running BS III or something else and if hes using HPtuners its at least a 99+ pcm. You can reflash the 99 pcm with a 2000 tune if you have both licenses.......then add the III bar to it.

If you install a 2 bar map sensor, and force the car into SD, the VE will only read 1/2 way at 0 vacuum. So It should work fine, just have to play with the numbers.

I'm a 98 running a 2bar SD tune 14psi no problem and the car runs great.

I don't see how this is being negative by my responce.

Granted 95% of my other posts are anti SD tuning, but I thought my responce was informative, and gave a general direction of how to pursue trying to SD a 98 car.

So do you need a 2 bar setup to do SD on any '98, or just for those going FI?

2 bar is only applicable with boost.

you can do an sd tune on a 98, but when you have boost is when you get creative. my car has been running an sd tune for a year or so. works great.
