Man I should put some 3.23s back in my car to get some great dyno numbers.

EXACTLY why I am in the process of rebuilding my rear with my original 3.42 gears. The 4.10's I installed years ago before I had the 382 are just WAY too much now.

In case ANYONE thinks I am saying this:

DO NOT SELECT GEARS TO IMPROVE DYNO RESULTS.

#1. I dont believe you can say that one car will be faster than another through any race without more than 30 hp difference in SAE dyno #s.

#2. Some people measure the influence of various parts on individual cars in a controlled environment (like me). This is good information for me so that I can measure things against before/after the gear change.

How to choose gear ratios in an M6 LS1:
Given traction, you will go the fastest through the 1/4 if you hit the top of your comfortable rev range (rev limiter for most of us) 1" after the finish lights of the 1/4 mile.
You will go fastest around a road track if you were 1 rpm from your rev limiter, in 4th prior to braking at the end of the fastest straight, as long as you do not have to go down beyond the bottom of your power curve, in 2nd, in the slowest corner. The M12 or whatever its called in the Z06 solves the insane 4th-5th gear ratio jump from the T56, and so this aversion to 5th on the road track is not as important for the Z06.

more relatively useless info

It's interesting info, but as you said, this is for comparison purposes only. It just goes to show how many variables there can be in that magical #. Screw the dyno; take it to the track!

Terry, are you a dyno queen? I figure if you put out 435RWHP on the dyno, you ought to be able to out MPH me....and my measley Stage I heads & .535 lift cam.....correct?

So how were these "losses" calculated?

This thread is over 6 years old!!!! You seriously think you could have found an older one???
