Well, I guess they could both be considered "stock", but I'd have to say I prefer the SS hood myself. However, some of us Z28 guys can pull off a really clean look while still keeping the flat Z hood.

back when i had the z28 hood i went into the city one day and had some RS stickers put on just for the afternoon, so everyone and their ricers thought i was rolling with a v6, it was funny listening to their bullshit after i'd smoke them, now i have the ss hood and no emblems and it looks great

SS hood. Must weigh a good bit less than the stock steel Z28 hood as well which is always a good thing. I keep waiting to find an SLP one in my color but no luck yet in 3 years. A guy just had one one ebay but wanted too much and it had some repairs done to it so my search continues.

No I do not have the actual weights of each but there is no way the SMC SS hoods weighs as much as the steel Z28 hood. Probably a good 15-20 lbs less for the SS would be my guess.

Hmm it's hard as I really like them both but i've grown to like the z28 hood better, honestly it might be just biased. I like them both a ton.

overall i like the SS hood, but if you have a "z" you should NEVER put a SS hood on it.... there's plenty of other hoods to pop on ...*cough* sunoco *cough*

Sorry I thought the ss hoods were steel what are they made of?SMC??
I thought the underside(air chanel etc) was fiberglass and thus all togther weighed a lot please tell more about the make up of the ss hood.

Nope. Check out the SLP web site. They are made of SMC NOT steel and always have been. At least the 98-02's. Same stuff our sail panels are made of and the doors/fenders I believe. Sheet Molded Compound is what I think SMC means.
