Talked to a shop today. I wasnt sure if I wanted a Dick Harrel replica or the one above but I decided on making a replica of the car above. It will take at least 2 months to make and a decent amount of cash but it's what I want. Only issues was what thesoundandthefury and Heatmaker mentioned about the wheel base etc. My idea was simply not to go as wide with the setup, to configure it for 18x12 with a meaty tire and good offset. What are some other options? Please understand this is a go, this will happen. I couldnt find a rear pic so I decided to go with a custom CME setup using a wide single tip instead of quad tips. Let the ideas flow



I made a new thread about it because I want as much input as possible. What do you think?

I agree with the above suggestion about the wing...for a street car, I'd go with a lower wing or none at all...

 

Do it and have fun. They can call it rice all they want, but look at it. It is a cup car. Not a 17 year old kids 87 Honda hatchback with primer paint, clear taillights and a hole in the exhaust.

I would keep the wing. On many cars, it wouldn't work. However, I think it goes well with the body lines of that car. It is supposed to be there.

I love the idea, but tell me you will use nothing less than a C5R headed 427 to power it. I guess NA will be fine for a while...but you need to throw a couple turbo's on there at some point

Thanks for the comments and advice guys. As for the price, it's not going to be cheap but it's withing the alloted budget I set out. I'm not willing to go over the $5000 budget for a car worth half that. I have a vert so I'm trying to work out a removable hard/targa top. Not exactlly sure how thats going to work out but I'm hoping to steal cues from the only Cobra mustang to offer it from the factory. As for the wing, I was thinking that wing would be over kill on the streets. I was thinking of something like using my freedom design spoiler or getting the rksports version like the one on the dick harrel car. Going to sound disapointing but the engine will be a 383 LT1 with the mods listed in the sig. Should make mid 400 on motor and ill be going with a 200 shot for the track.

Not closeminded, just opinionated. And that is what he asked for. I, however, did not ask for your opinion.

So I went back and read his original post, and I think it may look better with narrower front fenders. I don't know if this is what he has in mind when he says "to not go as wide." Given the visual respresentation of that specific car, it will strongly influence perception, whether or not it is an accurate depiction of his plans. In comparison, I love the look of the Dick Harrell cars. The subtleness to the body's wider lines make it desirable. But when I see huge fenders and a huge wing and read of plans to put it on a street car, I can't help but think of a widebody Honda Civic, Del Sol, or something of that nature.

As for the owner, I can't wait to see pics because I hope it looks good when you are done.

If you look at the front fenders they kinda just end. I would make it go not so far out and round out before the door. Also that body is for autocross not drag racing! If your gonna do it dont but a 200 shot just build it as a badass roadracer. My opinion. If seen more pics of that before a long time ago. I cant find them anymore but if i run across them ill post em up for ya.

 

Just my $.02, but if I were gonna try and tackle a project like this, I think for the sake of structural integrity, I'd focus on making the whole front end one piece. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about getting one set of body panels to fit over another set of panels and still all line up correctly. (And reducing the possibility of individual panels sagging or becoming spider-webbed over time.) Plus, it'd be killer if you could get it set up on a custom set of hinges so that the whole front end flipped up to expose the engine compartment. For purposes of maintaining "authenticity," it would probably be a good idea to cast all the parts separate, (hood, fenders, etc.), and then fasten them all together so that you'll still have the original factory appearance of seams, joints and body lines.

 

That body is definitely for roadrace, and not autocross....there is a big difference!

I'd be up for a GP on getting just the front end shipped over here to the U.S. It combines a front breather and splitter in one nice molded piece.
