adding 12 disc cd changer
I have a 99 Z28 with the monsoon unit with tape player and I would like to add a 12 disc changer. Does it hook up in the back under the drivers' side trim panel or is it somewhere esle? Can I use any brand cd changer like Kenwood or does it have to be a monsoon? The guy at the radio shop said I could use any brand but I know you guys are the experts on camaros. Is this a pretty simple install? Does the trim panel have to be removed and how hard is it to remove?

It depends - yes, you can use any brand of CD changer if you don't mind mounting the remote control head that comes with it and using FM modulation for the audio input. But if you want to use the built-in radio controls and have a direct connection you will have to go with a factory changer.
The changer mounts in the empty space in the back on the driver's side beside where the t-tops are stored. The wiring is already in your car - you'll find the harness taped to the speaker wires under the plastic trim on the driver's side in the hatch area. You'll have to rig your own mounting because they only welded in the mounting brackets if the car came with a changer from the factory. It's pretty easy to slip a piece of plywood under the carpet and screw the changer to that.
I just happen to have a factory 12-disc changer in my garage that I can let go for $75 plus shipping. I even have an extra 12-disc cartridge to go with it. PM me if you're interested.

Is the cd changer you have a monsoon? It will work in a camaro? I see you have a transam and I was not sure if it is the same. Does it work okay? Do I need a wiring harness to hook it up? The plywood is a good idea. I was thinking about using velcro. I might be interested in the changer. Excuse my ignorance because I am new to this but how do I pm you?

Yes, the CD changer is for a Monsoon system. The same changer is used for both Camaros and Firebirds whether or not they have Monsoon systems.
It was working fine when I took it out. If you buy it and it doesn't work I'll be happy to refund your money.
No, as I mentioned, the harness is already installed in your car. It's plugged into the back of the radio at one end and the other end is taped to the left rear (hatch) speaker harness under the plastic trim panel there. However, I have an extra harness that I can throw in the box if you want it.
