Default Katech Value 427 dyno test - 3 cams

Specs:
Katech value 427 short block 11:1CR. -> https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-internal-engine/548511-katech-value-427-short-blocks.html
Katech Stage 3 LS6 heads w/ 2.100 intake valves
LS6 intake manifold
Donaldson blackwing airbox
MEFI controller
Dyno headers

Test 1: (C4-3470 - red) Katech Stage I "Torquer LS6" cam
- 204/218 @ .050, .551/.551 lift, 112 LSA
- 516hp, 558 lb-ft of torque

Test 2: (C4-3481 - blue) Katech Stage III "Trac" cam
- 258/258 @ .050 .578/.578 lift, 110 LSA
- 594hp, 543 lb-ft of torque

Test 3: (C4-3487 - black) Katech Stage II "K.spec" cam
- 229/229 @ .050 .576/.576 lift 116 LSA
- 552hp, 549 lb-ft of torque

Shenk Pegasus water brake engine dyno, superflow electronics. Corrected to STP J-607.

The stage II was our final cam choice. Nice idle and a good balance between the high torque stage I cam and the peak hp stage III cam. The small stage I cam surprised me the most with 516hp and 558 lb-ft of torque.

Just out of curiousity Jason, why the LS6 intake? I am assuming this is a customer car, correct? What would you guess the gains would be from ported fast? BTW very nice curves, that baby cam really surprised me, would be really nice in a sleeper truck.

The LS6 intake was used because we have one for dyno flogging. The engine was sold to the customer minus the intake.

The Torquer LS7 cam found in the Street Attack package is really designed for LS7 heads. I don't know what it would do with LS6 heads. We didn't test that one. With LS7 heads it should make the same 600hp/570tq.

Amazing as always Jason! Out of curiosity, I'd like to see the LS7 Torquer cam tested with the LS6 heads. I wouldn't even know what to expect with that much split. Do you have time to do this?

the small cam just isn't big enough to feed the engine so it noses over quickly, but it is a peaky little rascal.

This engine is already off the dyno, boxed and ready for shipment.

You're right. It was originally designed for a 5.7L.

But still, the LS6 is restrictive on a 5.7. Even a 90/90 would choke that set-up. A sheet-metal intake could easily add 70hp to those set-ups, there are threads on here where they are making 50hp and more over 90/90 set-ups on big cube motors.

Big numbers help = big sales. Just some food for thought.

I agree for the most part, but Katech has their reputation for marketing and I can't think of anything better to have. To me, they are absolutely one of the top shops in the world. Yeah they may advertise a little lower numbers than everyone else, but there is no doubt that you can go reproduce their numbers on anyone's dyno! Plus it will last forever (at least as far as high perf goes). They are the ultimate definition of "quality over quantity.

All good info...

My Vette has recently become a 100+ mile a day commuter and I am thinking seriously of this short-block with a small cam... plus my current small runner AFRs and FAST 90/90... for an easy driving TQ-beast...

That stage 3 cam looks real nice, lower torque would actually be a good thing for my tires, but I think it would be too radical for the street.

I want to resurrect this thread and ask how much advance (if any) this cam has...

Test 3: (C4-3487 - black) Katech Stage II "K.spec" cam
