Default C6Z06 Bone-Stock on Drag Radials—New Best 11.10 127.94

Bone-stock 2006 Z06 on drag radials

Venue was Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland, a private rental for a Turbo Buick club. We had two open lanes from 1045a to 4p.

Weather was sunny but cool; temps in the 50s and low-60s. DA ranged from 100 to 700 feet. Track prep was excellent. Track surface temp was 80-84 degrees.

I made three passes: 11.16, 11.23 and 11.10, before being told to park it for the day.

Splits on the best pass, at a DA of 700 feet, were:
60'........1.786
330'......4.804
660'......7.251 @ 102.49
1000'.....9.332
1320'...11.100 @ 127.94

In the thurmbnail is a comparison of my best passes on DR and stock tires.

My next racing date is Oct 23, a rental at Atco. And hopefully, the Test and Tune at Maryland International Raceway on October 29th.

Still shooting for 10s, bone stock on DRs. That got a bit harder today, when I was banned from Capitol Raceway until I install a cage. Tech said: too many warning before for sub-11.50 without the cage. Stock car banned. Ridiculous rule.

Oh, well. If anyone has a bone stock C6 M6/M12 they'd like to see dipping into the very low 12s or better at Capitol with me as guest driver, please let me know.

Thanks, Nine Ball. I have a vid of my 11.16 pass in HD but need to figure out how to get out of the camcorder and into my two year old Mac Powerbook. The camera man, unforturnately filled the memory card in my camcorder while I was staging for the 11.10 pass. Seems he kept shooting those Buick Turbos. I'll try to post the 11.16 vid as soon as I can.

I am running in two forms: (1) stock tires and (2) BFG 345.30.18 on CCW 18" x 12" Corsair race wheels.

The launch issue for the C6Z revolves around Torque Management, which pulls power on the launch to protect the drive train, and the finicky LS7 clutch, which simply won't accept any slip. Due to this clutch limitation, I constrain the launch to a max of 3500 rpm.

If your bud has an aftermarket clutch, the tire options are wider, including M&H and Hoosier, in 17" which will fit around the rear calipers with properly selected wheels.

I'm not delighted with these BFGs. I doubt they'll give more that 40 passes before they are two used up to ensure safety. At $312 apiece, they're also expensive.

Thanks everyone for the generous remarks. I'm pretty sure I can get the car into the 10s at 128+ stock on DRs later this month when I can get to a track from which the car is not banned.

Thanks, Bruce.

BTW, do you still have the MT Radials on Z06 fronts you bought from me? I seem to recall your moving them to another owner. Reason I ask is I'd like to try some on the rear of my C6Z at MIR T&T on Oct 29th. Any info?

Not really trying to be a trouble maker,

What are we talking about here. I have a f-body that has 90,000 miles on it that is 320 RWHP NA at best running 7.72's, stock heads & cam with an ls1 intake weighs 3,665 lbs. with a full roll gage even though the times don't warrent it at a track with an elevation of 1015' leaving at 1,500 rpm's that I have less than $13,000 dollars in.

I mean really $47,000 dollars plus for 5/10 of a second reduction. Your car has 427 cuibc inches to my 346 cubic inches. Money is not an issue for me either, I just spend it on other things.

Now if we are talking about your driving skills looks like you are getting the most out of everything that GM provided you for your price.

Now what you should do is add a roll cage to that thing and come to a track knowing that you and your car is a lot safer. This would allow the track owners to enjoy watching you get the best time out of a vehicle that GM has built instead of having to come to you and tell you not to come back.

I think we all should be as safe as possible. I hope you get your 10's before the end of the year good luck.

Sorrry bud but I call BS till I see a slip. It's possible but would take one helluva launch way over 1500rpms.

Comparing an Fbody to a Z06 is similar to comparing my Grandma to Heidi Klum.

Ranger, I see that you've been banned from Capitol. I guess your an OUTLAW now!
Congrats on the smoking times! 10's are just around the corner.

personally, i think stock cars should be exempt from the roll cage rules.

thats some very impressive numbers there. when are u gettin tq management removed? seems like it would help u launch higher

Actually I was not comparing an f-body to a corvette. I was asking what the point of the post was!! It is the car that GM built or Ranger's driving skills not really trying to take away from either!!!

As far as the BS flag. Not sure how to attach a thumb nail and don't really think I need to. But I can do as Ranger did and type it for now.

The C6Z is my daily driver, grocery getter, Lowe's hauler, track car. It's stock. All stock. Just add DRs sometime.

No plan to cut it up with a cage and kill it's resale value when I turn it over in three (now 2.25) years. Doing that would be a really bad financial decision. Would also make it impossible to haul my DRs to the track.

NHRA and IHRA need to adjust relax the 11.50 rule for stock cars. We had five C6Z at Cecil same day. Four of the five ran under 11.30. All were told to park it after a few passes, even at a rental to which the paying club brought its own insurance.

Look...you may be only stalling it to 1500rpms but when you leave and floor it the stall is going to flash to 4000rpms. How the hell do you think your pulling 1.60fts!? Not leaving at 1500rpms Ill tell ya that now!

UL Lose,

Wow, you are (correct) if I leave at 3,000 RPM's on the footbrake my sixty foot's go up to 1.66 or 1.68. Leaving at 1,500 RPM's allows the convertor to flash at a slower rate than at 3,000 RPM's. Even at 3,000 RPM's it does not flash much above 3,700 to 3,800 RPM's only 346 cubic inches in my ride.

However you are (incorrect) to think it flashes to 4,000 RPM's when the car leaves at 1,500 RPM's. Remeber I don't have big RWHP numbers or RWTQ numbers. Stock car here with 90,000 miles on it that I can drive anywhere I want at anytime.

Have a nice day.
