Default Broken Driveshaft pics

2 runs after my 12.47 run my driveshaft took a dump. I was launching at 4.5-5k rpms. Luckily a buddy of mine had a stock one lying around. I am planning on upgrading to a chromoly driveshaft and a drive shaft loop when I do a 12 bolt. check out the pics:

Good thing it didn't cause any major damage. Makes me reall want to consider what kind of driveshaft I get before I start driving my car.

I would like to analyse that fracture.

How far would something LIKE this get you? Would it hold?? It is expensive, though...

What kind of tires are you using to hold that much RPM at launch?

Those aren't really "street" tires... they're street legal drag radials. But I too am suprised your diff didn't blow first.

That is what I thought. I can only launch that high on DR, also. My gearset or driveshaft hasn't blow either but I don't do it very much.

I can't believe you got 17'' MT hehe Didn't know they made them that high. I wish I could get MT on 15'' but with Z28 brakes it doesn't seem to fit.

Welcome to the broken driveshaft club! Yours looks just like mine when I broke it at the local drag strip, same location mine failed.

I wouldn't count your chickens before they've hatched. You might have caused damage to your rear without it showing any real signs yet (excessive shavings/chunks of ring/pinion gear in the fluid). Only real way to know is to take the cover off and inspect the internals. I thought the same thing as you when I took out my driveshaft. I later found out that I took out both the driveshaft and carrier at the same time.

Bummer. I like my Strange Chromemoly driveshaft, not too pricey and upgradeable if I change my rear end. Using a BMR driveshaft loop.
