Default C6Z06 Bone-Stock on Drag Radials -- New Best 11.06 127.80

Great day at Maryland International Raceway at Budds Creek, Maryland. Sunny skies, a relief after three days of rain, and warm temperatures but not too warm (low 60s), drew a large crowd of racers and spectators. I arrived an hour before the gates opened and found myself about 10th in line.

Made some progress in my quest for 10s in this bone-stock C6Z06. Today, swapped rear tires and ran a pair of BFG 315.35.17 DRs on ZR1 rears. Had 400+ passes on these tires in my C5Zs and they felt familiar and posed less burden on the LS7 clutch that bedevils most drivers.

Today, my series was in sequence:
11.08 128.82 1.80 DA=613 feet
11.10 128.58 1.80 DA=750 feet
11.06 127.80 1.72 DA=825 feet This is a PR.

The splits on the two best passes were:
60'........1.722
330'......4.750
660'......7.208 101.01
1000'.....9.302
1320'...11.066 127.80 The Video

60'........1.808
330'......4.81.8
660'......7.248 103.48
1000'.....9.335
1320'...11.087 128.82

Also IllusionalTA was gracious enough to spent his afternoon shooting videos of my three passes using my HD camcorder. Once edited, I’ll post a link to the best one. Many thanks.

So, it’s still a work in progress. Just need to combine a launch, 330’ and 330’-1320' and it will be in the 10's without mods. Hard to get those moving parts right in a single pass. 51 passes and counting. No breakage. And still not liking the LS7 clutch.

My next scheduled racing date is Nov 19th at Atco. But I'll try to get out again before that.

Best to all,

Ranger

Congrats! I hate it when you race against someone with open headers I could not really hear your launch.

Man. Sweet car and driving. That's just insane to be that close to 10's in a stock car...

That is amazing. That's what the hottest full-on factory drag specials were running in the 60's.

14:1 compression, gutted to the max, swiss cheese frames, and this guy probably got 20 mpg on the way home with the AC on.

Question: ANY wheel hop or starting line issues?

The stock ECU/PCM punishes powershifting (PS). I usually PS the 3-4. On pass two in that series after an 11.08 opening, I decided to shed some time by PS the 1-2 and 2-3. Result was not what I expected. Despite almost no spin on the shifts, the ET was 11.10. Last pass, went back to PS only the 3-4 and turned 11.06 is worse air.

Would be a different story if I tuned out Torque Management. But I'm a stock guy.

None at all. The finicky LS7 clutch won't take a launch above 3600. So a very fast clutch release followed by a finessed throttle squeeze is what works best. Between the clutch and Torque Management, much about launching the C6Z is counter-intuitive. But once it's in 2d gear and pulling, it's very similar to a strongly modded LS1/6.

I've had wheel hope exctly twice on launch. Never on the 1-2 shift. Both times the track surface temp was mid-50 degrees; I was on stock tires shooting for 11.1X and squeezed the throttle too aggressively after the release. Once, it hopped three times, the other, five times. No damage, but the passes wound up in the 11.5Xs. So I mounted the DRs and all was fine again, 11.12 that day.
