Default Which turbos for twin setup? Like Incon but cheaper...

Sorry to be that guy, but I wanted some different opinions...

I really like what I see with the Incon kits but I don't want to pay the big bucks for Garret GT series turbos. I think something between the GT28 and GT35 is what I am looking for... maybe closer to the GT35. What are some cheaper alternatives??? Internal or external gate is okay. I expect to land in the 600-700rwhp area. After a long break it's time to start packaging into the engine bay so I need the turbos.

I have an 346ci HPE forged 8.5:1 shortblock,317 heads, stock cam, valvetrain, iron manifolds, etc. Heavy street car, good driveability and tire smoking torque is a must. Don't want to go over 6k RPMs because of my stock 4L80E and probably want to stick to a 2 bar setup if I can.

Thanks in advance! -Dave

Yes, something like that except at a lower cost, probably a conventional bearing. Any suggestions?

Even though I own an Incon kit I don't know everything about turbos, but I do know one thing about life... most of the time you get what you pay for.

Cutting the cost on the cartridges is like putting a band-aid on a car wreck.... you really can't effect a final goal if the understanding isn't firm at the start. You have to plan on spending whatever it takes, why not get a nice, long lasting ball bearing turbo set-up as opposed to the cheapest possible?

From experience I can tell you that with Forced Induction, you just need to keep feeding $money$ into that bottomless pit until the car is burning rubber in 4th gear.

Haha yea I see what you are saying but you have to draw the line somewhere, right? I sprung for the HPE shortblock with fogred Diamond pistons but used a lower grade forged I-beam rod and a brand spankin new GM cast crank... why? Because that's all I really needed for this project. If I was building a 1,200rwhp 8,000rpm drag car I would have spent the extra cash.

I'm not really looking for the cheapest out there... I'm looking for the most bang for the buck. I would love a set of ball bearing turbos, but I'll be happy with quality piece that will do the job 90% as well for half the price. Plus I'm about to put a few turbo's on my girlfriend's finger.... agh it's always something!!!

I know we had some units that were around 499 each and would support around 450+ hp each.

well i still love the GT35R's on a LS1. but they are costly. i think T60 or 61 should see you into the 1000bhp area and should be cheaper than GT35s. im i right or miles off?????

thanks Chris.

PS. there might be a few Ex STS turbos knocking about you could use!!!

Nice, what model and brand? Specs? I would also prefer a water-cooled center section if possible.

No, KKR's are just some generic brand. KKK is now owner by Borg Warner, which some of the KKK parts are now being used on some of the S-series units. KKK stuff though is the most $$$ in the market. They have some of the big compressor wheels that go for over 1500 just for the wheel!!!!!!!

Would a T04 or a T04E get me where I want to be... which is about 800hp at the crank? It seems that's a less expensive variety. Something on the phsyically small size would be nice too because my engine bay is filling up fast!

I'm very intersted in this as well.... hopefully we can get some good responses. I have been doing some reasearch, and i'm looking to make very similar power numbers as you, on a budget TT system (possibly a single of twins are too $$). I want a 99% street monster as well, thus wanting two small turbos so they will spool quicky. I think chuntington101 was right about a T60 or T61, for i've found that these would be a good choice... I would like to know why the turbos on ebay are so darn cheap. Brand new turbos from the website of a company that put a lot on ebay are in the area of $400, which is nowhere near the cost of a true GT35, etc., so what's teh deal with these turbos and what are you risking with them?

A To4B with a 53mm inducer a 71mm exducer and a 0.86AR turbine housing with a 54mm inducer is about the smallest you can go for a twin set-up for 800 crank. A To4E will take the power on up.
