Default Holy God, Tires are expensive!

Welp, I am getting my other pair of rims for the Trans-Am, they are a set of 18 inch Z06 rims for the rear. I was told the tread currently on the rim is "iffy". I am like, "ok" lets take a look and see what is out there.

Well M/T doesn't sell 18", so I look at Nitto, they want almost 300$ a peice for 285/35-18 drag radials.... I go to discount tire direct and I see BFG g-force T/A KDW NT's for 235$ each and BFG g-force drag radials like with in 5$.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ySize.do&ar=35

Mmmhmm, For now Im going to roll with whats on the car, I dont have to make a decision till spring but I expect I will run the z06's for street trim and put my M/T drag radials on the chromes.

Just to put it out there, are there any other street tire recommondations??

I have Pzero Assymetrico "System" out back for the rears (275-40-zr18) and I love them. They will throw off your speedo a bit if you dont match tires all the way around, but I got them brand new from Don Steven's Tire Co, for 100$ mounted and balanced on my 18s for both. Cheap if you ask me. They were mixed in with the used tires, and they still had the stickers on them. I got a deal on that. I have Continental Contisportcontacts on the front (265-35-18) and theyre also Z rated, got those at the same place for the same price (they were a tiny used, but they still had 3/8" tread left, so I went for it. I always seem to find good deals. The Pzeros go for ~380$/piece I believe.

What size are you looking for, I'll give a guy I know a call, see if I can hook you up. I got 4 tires for my truck mounted and balanced for 500 bucks, might be able to hook ya up on a set of whatever size you're looking for.

I have a wierd recommendation..

If all those tires are 250 a piece.... why not try to sell the 18's and find a set of 17's? You could probably find a close to new pair of 17x9.5, and then pick up a set of kumho MX's for that low price and it might keep you under the price of 500. If its ends up being about the same total, the positive part is you dont need to buy expensive tires again in the future.

That could be an Idea, or buy another pair or set of Chromes, sell the z06's and just live on 16's ..... mmmhmm

Id have to take a look at it, see if anything is stamped on it, when I had the tranny rebuilt the place I use, uses pro torque and this is what I specified. When I raced the car I could get it up to 2800 easy. I sometimes hit stall wall, which if it goes over 2800 it goes into 3rd gear "safety" mode, It was a very streetable converter. I always ran it on a B&M tranny cooler.

PM if interested. I am nearing the end of my 94 z28 part out.
