Default how long did you stock a4 last??

Hey guys I'm just trying to figure out how long a stock a4 will last with a converter. I already have a tranny cooler, but i was just talking to JP from RevXtreme and he was saying that i can expect my tranny to last 3months with a converter...? I had never heard it was that bad on here? Hopefully this isn't true although it probably is b/c i assume he knew what he was talking about...

Let me know how long your tranny lasted or if its still lasting....

mine lasted all of about 6 months with the a 3200 vig (stock internals) with cooler. I did have it tuned and the Torque Management removed. I keep frying clutch packs but hopefully i have it solved now. But all else aside one of the best mods i have done to the car!!!!

Mine lasted (and was still shifting perfect) to 105,000 miles. About 62,000 it had a 4200 converter. It saw a bunch of 11 second passes. I can't complain. Tranny cooler does wonders.

I swapped it for a built tranny when the 383 went in.

Numerous members have thousands of miles on their stock tranny with an aftermarket converter. No reason why they shouldn't. It might be harder on a tranny than a stock one, but not by much.

so i don't really need to worry about replacing the tranny right away just because i put a TC in? I'm most likely going to get a 3600 yank, and can't afford to replace my tranny 3 months later...

Mine's gone for 150,xxx and has gone 7.5's. Like Jay said cooler does wonders. However IMO a lot of how well your tranny holds up after the TC will be in the tune?

My stocker lasted 171,000 miles. At 150,000 I had a Pro Torque 2800 stall, B&M trans cooler, LT headers, cam, mild ported LS1 heads, ported TB, tune (deleted torque management, increased line pressure) etc. The last thing I had done at about 167,000 was 3:73 gears. It just now is acting up...won't lock up properly in 4th and slipping a little 3-4. This is a DD car that was beat on pretty good before I got it at 119,000. Drove very solid even with that number of miles. Car is still driveable...Just waiting on parts to come in at Vengeance...new Yank SS3600 and a tranny!!! Can't wait!!

4000 stall in since February. Car has 79,450 on the clock and still going strong.

Could have something to do with the big *** cooler that I've got hooked to it though...

The question is a difficult one to address , Since there are indeed many variables , How your drive, present condition of trans, how it was driven in the past, One guy puts in a converter and beats the crap out of it daily and it dies in a week , Another guy does the same but only occasionally nails it and it last a few years. But realistically if your planing a build up, and since the trans is the foundation I would plan to upgrade in the not to distant future, Personally though everyone resist because its not near as much fun I think you should upgrade the trans before you even start a build up , Because it sure sucks to get all that power then have the forgotten neglected auto to fail and it happens all the time and everyone fusses about having to spend the money on one after spending several 1000s in performance mods again because they arent much fun as turbos, NOS , CAMS, converters. But as all must pass through one they are easily as important if not more so than all the other mods combined
