I was wondering where the best place to get a set of Aftermarket Valves for the L92 Head's.

I bought new "NASCAR" Del West SB2.2 Titanium valves off eBay 2.180" 5/16 stem intake and 1.60" 11/32 stem for less than a set of REV stainless exhaust valves. David Jarvis of Jarvis Performance is going to cut them down to length, re-groove the ends for locks and cut the intake diameter down from 2.180" to 2.169". He does great work and is very reasonable on cost. You need to come up with the 2.180" intake valves yourself because He doesn’t carry that size, but they are easy to find all over eBay.

I'm going to bronze bush the guides to fit the new stem sizes and go with a set of Patriot Extreme’s for springs.

How much to re coat them?

 

I'm working on a price from a guy in Houston. I'll let you know... For now, I'm just going to coat the exhaust valves and check the condition of the intakes after a season of use to see if any erosion has occurred.

I just got a new set of Manley stainless valves, they look great.
1.59 Race Master (straight stemmed) exhaust part number 11621
2.165 Race FLO (under cut stem) intake part number 11620
I paid about $160 for the set, seems like a deal to me.
I feel more comfortable using as many "shelf stock" parts as possible so it is easier to find parts when stuff breaks.
My machine shop is slow enough as it is, so the less work I make for them the
quicker I can wrap up the engine build.

So why not use the factory intake valves. They are light enough...107 grams I believe...and the price is definitely right. I am using the stock valves with the patriot springs and a little bit of port work.

 

Because my setup will be a twin turbo, I feel more comfortable
using a high quality forged stainless one piece valve.
I will be running turbos with a large a/r and a conservative tune to keep the exhaust temps under control, so I don't think I need an Inconel valve.
Per GM, the stock intake valve is made of a "Silichrome" material, and
the stock exhaust valve is just plain steel.
The price difference is very small between the Manleys versus OE, so
I decided to upgrade.
For a N/A build up I bet the stockers will be just fine.

 

Who did you pick up those valves from and I suppose they will drop right in with no mods?

 

I got mine through VSI in Indiana, but they only sell to businesses.
You can probably call Summit or Manley with the part numbers
(11620 and 11621) to order a set.
Manley said regular jobber price is $20 each, so you should not have to pay more than that.
A competition valve job is a good idea to make sure the valves match up with the seats properly.

Can you post the valve specs written on the side of the Manley boxes for these valves? Length, tip, etc.

They are not lightweight.

 

I will get the info off the boxes and post up tonight if I have time.
They are designed as stock replacements, so I would have to say the lengths
will be the same as OE.
The intake is 2.165 versus 2.160 for the OE valve, a quality valve job will be
done on my heads anyway so the .005 difference in size means nothing to me.
You can call Manley with the two part numbers if you need to know right away.
They could probably tell you the weight of the valves as well.
Weight is not my #1 concern, I am after durability first.
With a pair of turbos I won't be spinning it to the moon, probably 6,500 max.

Looks like 300+ to coat just the 1.6" titanium exhaust valves with no guaranty it will hold up to a forced induction app. He recommended that I run the light weight titanium valves on the intake and run stainless on the exhaust.

So that's my plan...

The part numbers for the Manley valves are
(11620-8 and 11621-8) for a set of eight each.
If anyone needs a set ASAP, I can sell mine for $320 shipped.
I will not need them for a few weeks anyways.
