it looks like the cage was cut out and welded back in. what happened there?

 

The mild steel cage was cut out of another car and put in this one before I got it. I had every intention of taking it out when I put the rear frame rails and 4 link in. It was going to be a complete fire wall back tube car before I decided to toss out the project.
