Default Does your FBODY wonder?

Ive had a 95 Formula and now a 99 Camaro SS and they both wonder! They fallow the crown of the road and around here its so bad that I need to use both hands to fight the wheel on some roads. Both cars have done this, alignments are good. Anything I could do to eliminate this? I think it`s called bump steer?

The only thing I can think of is that you have a wider tire on the vehicle. I have 245/50/16 and have no problem with the car wandering on the road.

I dont have to use both hands but mine does this as well. I had it aligned 2 weeks ago and it still does this. I have 245/50/16 tires also. I don't know alot about suspension but I have a new sway bar and endlinks I am going to install. I will let you know if it helps.

What kind of tires? Pressure?

Depends on the road too!

Mine wonders/wanders like a SOB. Has done it since new. Even after numerous alignments and different brand tires and poly bushings and swaybar links...etc. Everybody claims it's the tire width, but it's more to it than than that. I have wide tires on my truck and it doesn't scare the hell out of me on rutted roads like this car does. If you find a cure, please post up.

I never noticed my car wAndering too bad until I put the 275's on. The original 245's didnt seem to set in the ruts very bad. I have had some scares with it, but all without incident.

Mine does it but I have 315's. I wouldnt say its as bad as your describing it though. Maybe Im just use to it or infact its not that bad. The road has to have some good grooves in it for it to do it bad. I have a pretty tight suspension so that may help too.

Wouldn't a pretty aggressive toe setting correct bump steer?

yes there are lots of things to it, and its more than just the width of the tire.. its aspect ratio and width vs total overall height. short and wide is much worse about it than tall and wide.

bushings aren't really going to change much. alignment can help a little. worn shocks amplify the symptoms.

the cure.. old 26 x 3 inch wire spoke wheels with skinny tires and new shocks.

My car wonders how long its going to be on jackstands THIS time.

Really not much help for it unless you want to go to a skinnier tire. The 245s will follow the ruts in the road.

Thankfully Kansas is flat and we have good roads. On the Kansas side anyway. I stay away from Missouri.

Thanks for the replys guys. I have 275`s. There is a road that has alot of heavy semi traffic around here. I think its actually a route that by passes scales so the real heavy stuff goes down this road. Oh well, I guess I`ll just have to live with this, I hope a change of shocks will help out.

Yup, it is mostly the wide low-profile tires. I got on a road recently that I could just barely stay on because it kept grabbing onto the ruts.

My 1995 Z-28 did not do this but my 1999 SS does it. ..tried different tires, shocks, etc, nothing fixes this. ...just a bad design flaw...

the stock 245/50-16's were fine the 275/40-17's wander/follow the road but not as bad as when i had the 285/40's in the front
wider the tire the more it will follow the road

You guys got it all wrong. The pulling from left to right is due from all the torque steer, its simple ricer math, duhhhhh!!!!!
