Default A4 kickdown points on the highway

Ok, I'm getting ready to sell my car. I had a guy look at the car today and he brought up an interesting point. When the car is in drive, and I hammer it, it only kicks down into 3rd unless I'm going 40 or slower, in which case it goes into 2nd. 3rd is not exactly a good passing gear unless you're doing over 65.

I'm trying to figure out why this is, and I think it may deal with my shift points. I run a HPP3, but I ONLY use it for speedo reprogramming (3.73 gears). I don't run any other HPP3 settings, stock shift points, firmness, etc. However I DO use a different method of reprogramming the speedo. I was experiencing some weird shifting at part-throttle when I used the regular tire height and 3.73 gears. 28" tires and 4.10 gears come up with virtually the same speeds in all the gears, so I used this formula. But since the shift points are speed-based, not RPM, I wouldn't think this would make a difference in the kickdown points.

Any suggestions?

Mods, please move this to the Computer section if you deem it more of a PCM issue.

Thanks.

Dan

I just down shift manualy do to this. I have an LT1 car and it is a 700R4 tranny since it is a 93.

To find out what the max downshift points are for everygear you have to shift it dowshift it manualy and then you can go back and have it programmed to those points.

It is going to depend on your redline, yout size tire and your gearing.

I have a 3.73 gear on a stock diameter tire and spin to around 6800 or so.

In first the max was 36ish
Second is around 65
Third i do not remember since it just let the car do it at those speeds since i am movin pretty good already.

This combinations has been working real well. The only big problem there, however, is I KNOW it must thrash my drivetrain quite a bit more than stock shift points. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

In the past quite many people reported HPP3 gear scaling to cause downshift troubles.

I had, and know others who had a similar problem after using an HPP3 with a gear change. Not a problem if the PCM is corrected with Edit instead of a HPP3
