Default Intercooler HELP!

I know this has been discussed thousands of times... I did a search but, I can't get anybody to tell the measurements on the intercooler. I want the one that mounts by the air dam. I don't want a front mount. I just aint gonna do it. I will take the turbo off the car before I put a front mount on it. But, anyways please help me my car is running 180+ IAT at WOT in 3rd gear and I'm needing one badly. This is also a STS turbo car. I think this guy had a front mount turbo not sure though.
If you know the measurements please let me know and maybe even a company that sells it already. I have a pic from here just can't find out who's car it was to ask him.

Thanks Alot,
Jimmy

I also refuse to do the front mount. Not sure how you would plumb it but I just ordered a set of 4.5" intercoolers for my D1SC setup. If I need more I'll add meth. I have a set of 3.5" dual intercoolers you could try.

That intercooler is way too small and positioned incorrectly to do any good. If you do not want to run a FMIC, then you could either run a A2W cooler or run a lot of methanol. Either one will help reduce your IAT a lot and not require you to cut up the front bumper area. Personally I would go with a A2W setup.

guys seriously, I didn't want to do a front mount but guess what.... ALL the people up here that I know run a front mount. Talk to Superman09 I think it is... he TRIED the bottom mount like you are wanting and that didn't help... IATs still were up there

I'm doing PTS's STS upgrade kit that requires NO cutting of the bumper/supports or anything and I KEEP my foglights. I can get you the dimensions if you want or you can order it from them or TRTTurbo. Once you have the dimensions you can do what you want with it. But I'm telling you from guys that have experience with BOTTOM mounts...its not going to work well at all. I know 1 guy that had a camaro and put fans on his and I never heard back from him if it even worked that great

trust me...from experience and hearing people... go front mount. I even spent multiple hours painting my front bird, no decal, PAINTING and I'm going front mount

Well I think im going with the dual 3.5 intercooler for my car. My tuner said they would work good for what Im doing with the car. I already have methanol just don't want to use it for only 5 p.s.i. Hopefully Blkhwk will come through and I will have set.

I have studied this for a very long time, asked lots of questions, seen pictures of many systems, and I agree with Keith. I will go A2W. MightyMouse has it, and runs some awesome times. I won't need anything near what he has, so my installation will not be as intrusive. It will probably require a thinner battery (best solution is battery relocation, but again, I refuse to do that). Cost will be higher than an A2A, but so what. Efficiency is better, the nose stays pointy, etc., etc.

Althought it will not give you the results of a front mount, it will certainly lower your IATs. I had to read your post several times before the reality set in; your IATs are unbelieveable. I thought I was bad running 145 at WOT with 7 psi and no intercooler. Best of luck.

**** my tuner said the same thing. He said he has never seen IAT's that high on even alot of boost. I don't know why mine is like that. I haven't done anything different than most of you guys. I have the exhaust rapped and that's it really.

I'll throw in my 2 cents and personal experience. I think if you want to have an air2air, it pretty much has to be up front on an f-body. The ATI twins work pretty good, but still not the best. All these laying down and hanging down FMICs arent the way to go. I can back that up since i personally had my intercooler hang down by the air dam area so i didnt have to cut up my front bumper. That netted me a 12.6@ 109 (pulled timing like a **** from high IATs) on 5.5 psi. Also my coolant temps were very high and my car with fans on all the time would still run well over 200 (intercooler blocked the radiators main source of air, air dam). So not only did my intake temps suck (what intercoolers supposed to help) it also made my coolant temps worse. So i decided that it was stupid and i relocated the intercooler up farther and higher and cut out the area behind my filler plate and removed the fogs. I have it so i can still install the filler plate and it looks bone stock, but i have no foglights. Im sure i can just fab up some diff brackets and put them back on but the look of an intercooler is much more badass IMO. Also with the front end open, it will get even more air to your rad by having air now flowing threw the intercooler directly to the radiator. So anyways without changing ANYTHING else i went back to the track. I didnt even have to turn my fans on on the way there and my temp was fine. At the track i ran a 12.0@ 115 on the same 5.5 psi. Talk about a difference!

In a nutshell.... keep a2a's on fbodys up front, trying to use the hang low version by air dam or laying down dont seem to work or do their job for a damn. Not only do they get a lack of air to cool your IATs, they block the main source of air to your rad (air dam) so it makes you run a lot hotter as well. Hope this helps! Here are some pics of where i was before, and now...

I was just messing with ya.... Well I just hope this helps me some if not I always have meth on the car right now. I just don't wanna use it for only 5 p.s.i. because I know I will run out real quick. But, I guess I could take the fuse out for street driving than put it back in for when I go to the track. I guess that could work?

May I ask why A2W intercoolers are not being considered as a viable alternative?

Excellent find. I wonder if another thread is in order just to see if anyone has used them. The pricing is certainly competitive. The fan appears to be the only issue; will it fit in front of the radiator without having to cut a hole in the bumper?
00WS6WHITE, your exhaust being wrapped has no bearing on the IATs. I would strongly suggest, however, that you cure the high temps prior to any final tune taking place. JMHO.

Superman your car has a 32x12x4 correct? Who has those on ebay? I lost the link.

Im going to weld up a new cross brace (the big bar that the fog lights connect to). I think a 1 or 2" bar with provisions for fogs and the bumper would allow a big 32x12x4 core to fit and keep the fogs in the stock location.

I run a flat mount and have on several kits. They work fine when built properly; which could be said of any IC mounting location.

Here is my build thread that details what I did. My IATs are never over 10-15* hotter than ambient at 9-10psi.

Looks like a good setup. Im planning same idea with the cross bar but with a front facing IC.

Type in 31x12x4 on ebay and theres a few places that have them for $160 shipped.

Thank you for that. Maybe that will help alot more people out than just me. I would try it if I hadn't already decided on the dual 3.5's. We will try them first if they don't work. Than we will try that idea.
