Angry Y I never let anyone work on my cars...(!AUBURN rear~end related!)

So I have been reading up on changing the fluid in my auburn rear end and getting all of the correct supplies, additives, etc, stock piled for the service. So tonight to wind down from this weeks long grind I decide to work on the toy to relieve some stress and I take the cover off and lo and behold.....what is wrong in these pictures???

Hint: NO gasket is used on the AAM cover, see the side big holes, their for fluid movement!!

Now what really concerns me is; the last rear end service was done at a GM dealership in IN since that was where my car lived for the last 4-5 years....it sure would be nice if even they knew what they were supposed to do on our cars ...

No, but I did have a click, pop, or whatever the f*ck you want to call it on slow turns left/right and backing up only some time and this was my last resort at finding that damn noise I did about a 10 mile test tonite and no noise so I am thinking when the idiots changed the fluid they forgot to put the gm posi fluid additive in with the 80w90 that the auburns run I added two bottles with the two qts tonite, and of course its friggin 44 degrees here tonite but so far so good... wish me luck! If you search, a lot of us have that noise too...frustrating, very frustrating!

I thought the auburns didn't need the additive? Also my car has this click pop whiny noise when making slow turns. It started a few weeks ago right after I did my axle bearings and it is driving me insane. I'm going to drop the cover tomarrow but what should I be looking for?

NEGATIVE; auburns require only dino (non syn) 80w90 gl5 oil and at least one 4oz bottle of gm (or FORD! really!) posi additive, I used two 4opz bottles like some others and thus far I have NO more issues...(I put about 40 miles on her since the change, no noise!) And only use a good permatex like gasket maker and not a regular gasket has they block the AAM's circulation holes (has shown above) and my firehawk supplemental owner's manual tells me to change the auburn fluid every other oil change!!! (6k miles!!!) So you will need 1 or 2 4ounce bottles of gm posi additive, 2 quarts of 80w90 gl5 gear oil and 1 tube of gasket maker...I also spent $5 on a plastic pump that screws onto the gear oil bottle with a long hose, works great and another good tool for the garage.

I really appreciate it, I when I put it back together I used syn oil becuase I have a 5 gallon bucket of it with a pump. I did use the additive but I guess it don't matter when you don't have the right lube. One more dumbass question. I have a 98 so I assume I have an Auburn but I'm not sure becuase I haven't seen any pics to identify it. I do know it has little yellow springs, so does that make it an Auburn?

Hard to say if you have an auburn or not, their are several different types, 4 or so I think and most do not come with the auburn posi, just the SLP modded cars has I understand it. If you dont have an auburn posi, syn oil is ok but you need to read up on this in the other sections. You might want to start you own post on how to identify which unit you have...?

if you see the yellow springs and not any type of cone gears, then you have an auburn.

Exclamation

The magnet slides into the bottom of the pig housing, it's wedge shaped too..,you can't see it in this pic but it is hidden by the sway bar, I took it out and cleaned it too...you can see it in the 2nd pic

I always put a thin film of the additive on the posi clutch plates when installing them. Then put the remainder of the bottle in with the fluid fill.
