Default LSX in 87' Fox

Getting ready to start this swap. Picked up a complete 6.0/4L80 with acces. for $300..But have a few questions. Had plan on swapping intakes from the truck style to a LS6, but have been reading about clearance issues. But can't really seem to find any good information on the clearance issues. Any one have any input on this? Would I have to switch to a LS1 style acces. drive? All I plan to run is the water pump and alt. Do I have any other options? What else is required to swith from the truck intake to a LS6/2?

Next thing, I know the 4L60's fit, But haven't really been able to find any info about people using the 4L80? Will it fit?

I have a few other questions but am in process of searching for them..

Thanks

Kevin

what waterpump and alternator bracket do you plan to run? the outlet on the top of the truck waterpump will hit the throttle when you use the car intake. i dont know about the 4l80 fitting.

Here is how i modified my truck waterpump to work with the car style intake ,All i did was rotate the outlet and put a small dent in it for the stud to clear it ..... its been working great ever since. you can also see that I took the stock alternator/power steering bracket and cut it down so that it only holds the Alternator now instead of both.

Well after doing some research yesterday on intake. I found that the truck intake is quiet comparable to the LS6. The truck making more torque down low and then LS6 making more top end, but that you really wouldn't see much of a difference unless spinning 7k and over. I don't really plan to spin the motor that high anytime soon. So that problem is solved for now. I do need to find some 8.1 injectors though.

Still needing to know about the 4l80 fitment? Anyone..?

My car is turbocharged .... it uses truck manifold's pointed forward leading to a crossover and then on into the turbo. For longtube header's for the mustang give kooks a call they make a nice set for the swap. For pics of my set up search my posts and you will find some .

97-lt1 I cant say that the 80e will fit but I can tell you that years ago my friend put a T400 behind his 302 in a fox and it fit. I think the 80e and the 400 are the same size.

Thanks guys..Thats some info I was looking for. I've been doing alot of reading on this and others builds. Got the motor tore down some last night. going to go through it and make sure everything is good since I wasn't 100% on its history and that it sat outside in a shed for 2 years. Its got some gunk from the coolant and what not but overhaul just needs a good cleaning. More progress to come after the Holiday season. Hope to start getting some parts on order shortly after xmas...

What are you guys running as far as brakes go? Are you using the mustang booster and brakes? I would like to be able to use the mustang brakes and booster. You can apply vaccum the the booster from the LSX correct?

im using the stock booster and master that was in my car, upgraded the fronts to the larger 88up GT front calipers rotors and spindles(because my car wasnt a v8car it had tiny 9in rotors)... i plan to upgrade the master/booster when i put the rear disc's on but the f-body brake booster line popped right into the ford booster...

I have mine up on jack stands as we speak. I'm changing over to 5 lug using 95 spindles with 02 calipers on the front. For the rear I'm using a 97 rear end with the factory disc brakes. I have a set of 01 Bullitt wheels ready to go on it.

I'm using the stock 4 banger booster with a 95 MS....it's a bigger bore ms. I redone all of my brake lines at the ms also. I'm using a adj. prop. valve, line lock and had to convert from a 3 port to a 2 port ms.

Cool that takes one thing off my huge list of things to do..Haha. Trying to plan ahead and be aware of everything..Main thing I'm really concerned with is wiring of the car. Not really the hooking up of the engine harness or anything like that, but the fuel pump, gauges..etc?
