Ported Heads and TR224 Cam Package For Sale (lots of pics)
I am selling my heads and cam set-up because I’m upgrading to a set of AFR 205s and slightly larger camshaft
. This set-up has less than 5000 miles on everything and just came off the car.
CAM IS SOLD.
HEADS ARE SOLD.
EDIT EDIT EDIT: The heads are now being sold WITHOUT SPRINGS! Price has obviously been reduced. I was doing some additional cleaning on them tonight and found a broken valve spring over the #7 Intake valve. All the springs will be removed and tossed! Price reduced to $400.00 for the heads minus springs. Valves as listed below and stock locks and retainers still included.
The heads are hand ported 853s (99-00 LS1) that have been milled .030. Heads include the following:
2.02 Manley Pro Flow Stainless Intake Valves
1.55 Stock Exhaust Valves
Multi-angle SERDI valve job
NO VALVE SPRINGS
Stock Retainers
62cc Combustion Chambers (.030 mill)
10.9:1 Compression Ratio With Stock GM Graphite Head Gaskets and Stock LS1 Shortblock
Hand Ported and Assembled By a Professional Head Porter (non-sponsor)
Flow Sheet Included With Heads. Flow sheet shows flow before and after porting for an apples to apples comparison on the same bench. I must stress that I've only done a good initial cleaning on these heads. The buyer will need to do a final cleaning to their own satisfaction. I did zero cleaning on the exhaust ports.

The camshaft is a Thunder Racing TR224-114 (A very well known and proven camshaft; if you’ve never heard of it, do a search and you’ll find TONS of info on it)
Advertized Specs are 224/224 .563/.563 – 114 + 4
Cam Pro Plus (Cam Doctor) Printout From Thunder Racing (Included With Cam) shows actual specs of 223.8/224.6 - .561/.564 - 114 + 4

The above combo produces approximately an 8.5:1 Dynamic Compression Ratio (DCR) which is a great target to shoot for yet still remain pump gas friendly. If you are looking for a top of the line, max effort heads and cam combo, this is NOT the set-up for you. If you are looking for very affordable, streetable, and potent street/strip combo that is a great improvement over your stock equipment, this may very well be what you’re looking for.
I have no idea what this combo will dyno, and I don’t want to speculate about it. What I can tell you is that my full-weight (at the time), full bolt-on 99 Trans Am M6 went from a best of 12.55 @ 111mph to an 11.80 @ 118.8 with just the addition of these heads, this cam, plus an LS6 intake. The car was very conservatively tuned by me. No other changes were made to the car.
Cam is SOLD.
HEADS ARE SOLD.
I can give a shipping estimate if you provide your zip code. I can only accept money orders, cash (for local buyers), or Paypal. Please add 3% if using Paypal. Thanks for looking.

All PMs replied to.
Just some additional information based on questions I've received from a few people:
1. Yes, these heads will work on any year LS1. However, I highly recommend using the early style (I think 97-00) graphite head gaskets with these heads. This is because they have the standard notch in the deck that is found on all 853 head castings. I'm not sure why GM did that, but it is standard and not an issue with the graphite gaskets. You can see the notch I'm referring to in a few of the pictures above.
2. Also, if you have a 97 or 98 LS1 with perimeter-bolt valve covers, you would need to acquire a new set of 99 or newer center-bolt valve covers to use with these heads. If your LS1 is 99 or newer you already have the proper center-bolt valve covers.
3. For those interested in buying the heads only; if you plan to run a cam with more duration than 224 degrees and you have stock pistons with no valve reliefs (not flycut), I highly recommend you check your piston to valve clearance when you assemble the engine. This is due to the .030 mill on the heads. If you buy the full package or already have a cam that is 224 or smaller, piston to valve clearance should not be an issue. My clearance was just fine with these heads and my TR224 cam above.

Hi. Yeah, I'd be willing to sell just the cam, but right now I've got someone locally who PM'd me earlier and said he wants the cam as well. I'll wait to hear back from him later today, and let you know if he changes his mind.......sound good?
All PM's replied to.
OK, I'm getting lots of interest from people wanting to buy just the heads, and other people wanting to buy just the cam, so these items are now being sold separately and the price break down is like this:
Cam only: $250.00 plus shipping.
Heads only: $500.00 plus shipping. Heads will be shipped in one box (the box I received my new heads in from AFR), so the shipping probably isn't going to be as much as you might expect. I gave one person a quote of $30.00 to Louisiana and another of $25.00 to New York. Both of these prices were through Fed Ex and included $500.00 insurance.
Also, I've had a lot of initial interest from people then I never hear back from them. This has caused me to tell other potential buyers that someone else is ahead of them to buy this stuff, which probably puts them off. So, from here on out, the first person to pay pal me the agreed upon money or to positively inform me that they've sent out a money order, that person gets the item(s). Thanks alot guys for all the interest so far.

For those of you interested, I called Comp Cams yesterday about one of my 26918 springs being broken after less than 5000 miles of use (see above in post #1). They informed me that they have been having trouble with these springs (yes, even the blue-stripes). They have redesigned these springs again, using a heavier wire and are now rating them to .625 lift. I was asked to send my springs back in to have them exchanged for the newly redesigned ones. They said they are basically having a recall on these and have even replaced springs for people that haven't even broken theirs yet.
Bottom line.....if you're currently running anything but the most current redesigned 918 springs, I would call Comp and see about getting replacements under this "silent recall". One of mine failed with less than 5000 miles of use. The car was always properly warmed up to temerature before driving it.
I guess I'll have a new "still in the box" set of redesigned 26918 springs for sale in a couple of weeks since I won't need these for my AFRs.

Sorry, I didn't see this post until today. For some reason I didn't receive and e-mail letting me know there was a new post. Anyway, I'll probably post the springs up for sale in a separate thread when I receive them, but I'll PM you and let you know when I do. Thanks.
Sorry, I didn't see this post either until today. Right now I've got a sale pending on the heads, but I'll definatley let you know if anything changes. Thanks.
