looking to get a new head unit for my 00 gmc truck
i saw some units now have usb to play mp3's anyone know if i can hook up an external hard drive with usb to these units.
anyone now of the different units that feature usb, im looking for something that looks half way decent, not like some 16 year old kids deck with flashing neon lights and junk, something that looks professional, and somewhat affordable
been out of the stereo scene for quite a while and dont know whats out there so help me decide, looking to play my mp3's as i have about 50 gigs on a hard drive.

If you don't need a CD Player, the Alpine ida-x100 (the new one) kicks ***. It interfaces to a HDD, memory stick, or ipod through USB, so it's very quick to retrieve the data.
However, it works even better with an ipud. I'm totally anti-apple, but the various ways you can easily filter what you're playing by genre, playlist, artist, etc... made me ditch my external HDD and get a used 60GB ipod.
The red also matches the red illumination in my T/A quite well.

I love my Alpine CDA-9886, it looks clean and professional in the dash, and the USB port is on a cable, so you don't have something plugged into the face (which looks hideous in my opinion)...it also has an I=Pod specific cable...but I don't have any need for an ipod.
It's also compatible with Imprint...which is suppossed to be out later this month

I have a Pioneer Premiere DEH-P690UB, it has a USB input on a cable that you can run anywhere in your car. I like it because I like everything hidden and put away, not out in the open. I have my USB cable and iPod cable both running to my center console.
